Death Note is a manga, anime and MOVIE!!! The anime is only up to it's fourth episode (one is released a week) but the manga is fully completed. The film is said to have four parts to it, one of which is completed but in Japanese, and the other parts still in production.
The manga (to those who are unfamilliar, something like a Japanese comic book) and anime are originally in Japanese, but I have the subtitled versions (or in the manga's case, translated into English).

Death Note is a superb manga with lots of plot twists and a general, 'WAAAAAA!' feeling

The storyline goes: Raito (or Light as he's known in the anime) Yagami (Imagay backwards... hehe) is a 17-year-old about to enter a very top class college. He's nothing short of a genius. One day, a Shinigami's (Death God) Death Note falls down to earth. It simply looks like a black notebook with the words 'Death Note' on the front, and instructions on the inside cover.
The person whose name is written in this book will die. Of course, you have to know their name as well as be able to picture their face, but after 40 seconds, they will die. If a cause of death is not specified, they die of a heart attack.
Raito, feeling skeptical about the whole thing, ends up taking the Death Note home with him any way. That night, while watching the news, a criminal's name and face is displayed who is holding some young students hostage.
Raito writes the name in the book... and waits.
To his horror/surprise, in 40 seconds, the police rush into the building and announce that the criminal has died.

Following this, Raito decides to begin to 'clean up' the world. He begins writing hundreds of criminals into the Death Note, and they all die one by one...
But the police are not going to allow it. An investigation is set up... and one mysterious (and beautiful, I must say

) figure, simply known as 'L' takes over.
A hunt begins. If L finds Raito first, Raito will die. If Raito finds L first, L will die.

They both believe that they work for Justice... but who will prevail?

Gawd, that was probably a crappy summary, but go read it anyway
