Agoraphobia

Do any of you guys suffer from agoraphobia?

I f you do, please pm me or reply here with your solutions/things you do to help it.

I'm off to Paris on thursday and I just hate traveling in general (though I can't wait to be there to spend some off time with my bros who I haven't seen in months).
It's just the train trip... blah.  What if I have a panic attack?
plus Gab will be there with me, more pressure... ugh.

i dont know what that is, but feel better>?

i have acrophobia, fear of heights, if it helps
ashentara

it's in short the fear of being in a place from which you can't run away easily/quickly if you don't feel well ie train, plane, buses, large crowds, malls, etc.

for me it's only about traveling though. I spent most of the night worrying about it and, errr.. not sleeping  I'm really a mess this morning.

I don't really have anything to help you with it I get panicky when I have to go anywhere on my own, I just get so worked up about it. I don't know why, the only thing that helps me really, is putting my ipod on and zoning out the world.

Good luck Manu, you will be ok Maybe have some calming camomile tea before hand?

Manu a friend of mine has many issues, this being one, especially travelling away from home either by car or train.  She can cope with a taxi as long as its the same driver.  She uses patchouli (sp) oil on a hanky and sniffs it constantly - I think it has a calming effect.  She also has big issues with food and has been seeing a lady about that and about the going out thing - hers seems to be all linked together somehow.  She has now been on a train to Lincoln which is a major achievement for her.

I know thats isnt really very helpful.
ashentara

yes it is
I've been researching it on the net too, it helps to know there are many, many people like me
Well I knew it but.. yeah it makes me feel not so much like a big loser

I used to be totally fine with traveling, I mean I worked in England, and kept going back and forth... but now, it's bad.  The thing with agoraphobia is, if you don't face your fear, it gets worse. And I've been avoiding anything that can make me panic for so long, now I'm really scared.. but I have to do it.

I'm hoping that the fact that Gab is there with me, dependent on me, I mean, will help me focus and not start overthinking everything.
Helen

Maybe having your daughter there too will help - as you wont be alone (even though I know =she isnt that old)  You can do it Manu =D

well guys and gals...

I made it!!!

I'm back in one piece, and had the time of my life. I'm proud of myself, can you tell?   LOL!!!!

See, I'm one step further on the road to normalcy or whatever.. woohoo!

and I got to meet three of my fellow French Chair fans, it was great!!
we all went to Lush (Brits will know what I mean), I so adore that shop, I spent about 100 euros there oops
Sunburn

Well done ashentara!

It will now be easier for you. It sounded like (reading the beginning of the thread) that you were stuck in a rut? Going made you conquer that, and should now be much easier for you not to get worked up so much in the future.

You were letting 'something' control your life! It's your life, and shouldn't be controlled by anything other than yourself. You wanted to go, and you didn't let this beat you. You won the round, and should be now easier to win more.

It's a big victory for me..
Today I'm been feeling a bit glum though... you know, back at work, routine, yadda yadda yadda..

Oh well. That's life.  I'm really tired too (I guess all that energy spent worrying, "whatifsing", etc... I slept all afternoon !

Thats great Manu, well done

I love Lush! I wish I had a bath The house we shared when we first moved to Iceland had a bath and I bought lots of bath bombs from there. This one that I loved had lots of glitter in it and all the lads were complaining they were covered in glitter for weeks after, from using the bath haha
