Feeder

go on Chris, you know you want to!
mr_x

I was going to... but then got side-tracked by other things happening around me and distractions on MSN.

New album (Silent Cry) released 1 week on monday, new single (We Are The People) released this monday... it's going to be a good month.

For those who are curious about my obsession (yes, I am obsessed!) with Feeder, it is simple really.

Feeder was the band that got me into music to start with, and then over the years the songwriting/lyrics and music has got me through a hell of alot of tough times from bullying at school to helping me get over my ex.  Most of their songs have at least 1 line in them I can relate to, be it album songs, b-sides you name a song and I'll find a line that has a meaning to me in it.  Also every album has a different sound to it, there's variety on the albums too from fast songs, to slow songs and medium paced songs and a few songs that alternate through them!

No other band does that for me or moves me or gets me into the music as much as that.

Alot of people say they like Co(l)dplay... People compare Feeder to Codplay like Muse are compared to Radiohead.  Which really does annoy me... I don't know any Feeder fans who like Coldplay, we all tend to think Codplay are bland and generally crap. Also, Feeder were formed well before Codplay.

So, if you say that Feeder sound like Codplay, I might have to kill* you!!

*I'm not really that violent.

Anyway, I am also a big fan of Muse, which is why I'm here. Muse are the best band I have ever seen live, it's one area that they beat Feeder on.

/end of long post.
TreeHeart

You are the second Feeder fan I have found in the last 4 months, which is mad, as I have never met a Feeder fan before!
I may have to get an album and give it a listen
mr_x

Yeah, they don't get the support they deserve really, you tend to find that Feeder fans are pretty committed and have most of their CDs... Personally I have all of their albums (regular + special editions) and all of their singles since 2002 plus some signed vinyls too!  Been a fan since 1999. Only seen them live twice too, although one of them doesn't count because it was a farse of a festival they called Redbourn... Feeder had a 30 minute set instead of 1 hour due to time cock ups!

Then I saw them 2 weeks ago in Newcastle, their first proper show in nearly 2 years, they were rusty, but I was told they were back to their best in the last 2 gigs of this 'warm up' tour. Still good though.

Oh, I missed out that they are also known as 'the nice guys of rock' which is true, met them once and they are truely nice guys who will answer any question (within reason) and are happy to come out and talk to the fans after gigs.
mr_x

I really want to see this song live:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LaVnNlITg-Y

I hope they don't stop playing it, it's in my top 3 favourite songs ever!

Got the new single in the post today, and it is brilliant, the B-side is awesome too despite me only hearing half of it due to already being late for work!

Less than a week to go until the new album
mr_x

Finally had a chance to listen to the album, at a high volume and in full...

Just wow..... words can't describe... It's a complete album, their best to date, along with some really heavy riffs that come in 2 songs at exactly the right places shows Feeder haven't lost their roots at all.

Please, everybody buy this album so Codplay aren't number 1 in the album charts.

I have listened to the new Weezer about 5 times, and it's rubbish. Best song is the beans one.

Back to Feeder related matters

The band did a web-chat yesterday afternoon, alot of the Feeder Fan Site was present for it.

Grant said about the Q review: "the guy who wrote it is a lonely person, i have met him"

Reading a transcript of the chat shows that Mark was on form:

Richie: Is it just me that REALLY wants a bottle of that Beer 'Tuborg' which is on the side of this chat.
blf: i do too
jsmith: Oh i am so thristy
oriol13: me too
Mark Feeder: I don't drink and i want one... they look so cold and lovely...
Stuyrandall: id never heard of Tuborg until i came on here...
Mark Feeder: beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer
jonnyrocks: YES!
Mark Feeder: BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER!

And also they went on about somebody's cakes (who I know) and how the song 'Fires' is all about when her cakes go wrong...

Mark Feeder: 'fires' is about chloe making cakes then setting them on fire
winstano: Do Chloe's cakes ever go wrong though?
Mark Feeder: instead of eating them
nad0ng: burnt cake haha
smith: Ahhh...sooo....."She lights the fires then she goes below" is about when Chloe sets fire to a cake then hides in her basement?
alyssaphelan: does songwriting come naturally or does it take a lot of time and effort to get a song juuuuust right.
Mark Feeder: bakes, sets fire, basement, eats
mr_x

I did it... my mission for the week was to get to the highest Feeder listener on last.fm... and I succeeded!

hystericali

congratulations!

I must get the new CD. I'm after something new to listen to plus I have some money left on an HMV giftcard.....

I go through phases of listening to louder stuff like A7X and Slipknot, then have a phase of listening to 'quieter' things if that makes sense, gentler music, that's not like Avenged or the 'knot.....

*worries she does not make any sense at all and is talking absolute gibberish*

Aww awesome, i might go to the birmingham one, if i've got enough money..haha
TreeHeart

Well I got the new album yesterday and have listened to it 6 times today, 4 in work and 2 at home.
This is my first Feeder album to hear and I have to say it's totally growing on me. My fave songs atm are 8:18, Fires and Sonorous, could be others, I was in work so I couldn't look at titles
mr_x

Nice one Karen Glad you're liking it.

Who's the Enemy is my favourite song, the really heavy bit half way through it makes me shivver every time!!
TreeHeart

Just playing that one now, yes I like that one too It's got a great sound thats building up to that heavy bit and strings? can't go wrong with them.
Thanks for suggesting it, I never would have bothered otherwise haha
mr_x

It's much closer to their older albums than their more recent ones.

It's got a sound much like Yesterday Went Too Soon (1999) and a little bit like Polythene (1997). Which is good because those 2 albums were awesome!! Not that their new ones were crap, they certainly weren't! Comfort In Sound (2002) is my most listened to album ever.

Can't go wrong with Feeder, I say all the time they're the most under-rated band EVER... and they are, there's no denying it!
TreeHeart

I've noticed in maybe one or two songs, the sound is kinda like the killers and like Modest mouse, just a touch. I like both a bit, so thats not a bad thing, and it's only for like a moment. Maybe thats just me haha
mr_x

If you want me to send some older songs I can do that if you want, some form of IM program will be best bet, alternatively I can send some through email if you like.
TreeHeart

aw thanks I can get them myself if you tell me what ones to start with ?
mr_x

Oh don't do that...

From oldest-newest:

Crash
Descend (my number 2 song of all time)
Suffocate (single version if you can find it!)
My Perfect Day
Tangerine (if you like songs about the orange fruit) :p
Insomnia
Yesterday Went Too Soon
Undivided
Buck Rogers (everybody has heard it!!!)
Just a Day (ditto Buck Rogers)
We Can't Rewind
Satellite News (in my top 5 favourite songs of all time)
Turn
Just the Way I'm Feeling
Come Back Around
Feeling a Moment
Pilgrim Soul (has possibly the best chorus of any song i know)
Pushing the Senses

Urmmmm... Should keep you going for now.

I get carried away with Feeder songs because there's so many of them that are just awesome
TreeHeart

cool I'd rather get the whole albums though, so I'll just look them up I hate having random songs on my itunes hehe
mr_x

haha in that case, albums from oldest to newest

Swim (EP)
Polythene
Yesterday Went Too Soon
Swim Resurfaced (EP with extra songs to make a full album)
Echo Park
Comfort in Sound
Pushing the Senses
The Singles (singles collection with 3 new songs)
Silent Cry

If you're gonna ask me next which ones to download... I can't tell you, they're all bloody good!
TreeHeart

cool thanks I may start with Echo park, coz I know the name haha
mr_x

Wow... just wow!!

I've sat and listened to the lyrics in Sonorous and it's just hit me that the song is about Jon Lee's (former drummer) suicide and what Grant would have said if he could have talked to him first.

I thought Quick Fade was a really sad song about his death, but this tops it by miles!

Take a look:
http://www.songmeanings.net/lyric.php?lid=3530822107858726984

Feeder never fail to amaze me! No other band is like them!
TreeHeart

I don't know much about the band, but I do know that sad fact and it cross my mind whilst listening to the song that that was what it was about
mr_x

How to involve a crowd in a gig:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUHJi6Aj-NA

I'd love to see a band better that!
SuperGinge

Damnit! I want the album! It sounds really good...

I've got ones of the songs, sonorous, that you sent me chris...but i'm still trying to get money to buy the album....damn me and my poorness!

I'm going to start up a charity for me...haha

And wow, i just listened to sonorous, its such a sad song, but still awesome...
mr_x

I'm glad to see more people taking up the idea of Feeder and liking them.

To be honest, they're a very hard band to dislike!!
SuperGinge

I agree...I mean, before i started talking to you chris, i knew them, and a couple of their songs...but i couldnt really call myself a fan...but now you've really got me into them
mr_x

NEW FEEDER VIDEO!!!!!

http://channelbee.com/move/lovejoy#573

EDIT:
with added silly faces from Mark Richardson throughout, this has to be the best!

SuperGinge

Haha....quite excited about that chris?
mr_x

Went and saw Feeder last night doon the Toon (in Newcastle), Fightstar supporting who were OK at best, didn't like them that much.

Feeder were on top form, Grant was getting the crowd up for it, Taka with his usual springs in his feet, Mark and Dean pulling faces at each other as they usually do.

The set list was spot on - I'd have swapped 'Fires' for 'Who's the Enemy' as that was awesome when they did the warm-up shows, but can't have them all really.

Set list was:

We Are The People
Feeling a Moment
Shatter
Come Back Around
We Can’t Rewind
Fires
Insomnia
Pushing The Senses
Sonourus
Just The Way I’m Feeling
Tracing Lines
Buck Rogers
Comfort In Sound
High
Lost And Found
Descend
-------------
Silent Cry (Acoustic)
Seven Days In The Sun
Just A Day

We got a rendition of Foo Fighters - All My Life in the middle of Lost and Found, was funny as hell when Grant went into it he said "everybody sing along... all my life I've been..." then let the crowd do the rest - we were the best yet apparently, so good we finished off the song!!

The crowd was the most violent I've ever been in, a hell of alot worse than the Foo Fighters crowd last year which I was pretty much right in the middle for. I was squashed, crushed, stood on, elbowed, couldn't breathe, almost thrown into the mosh pit (mosh pit for Feeder!?!?!!!??), I thought I'd move, found some space to breathe, ended up 2 rows behind my ex of whom after the gig I completely ignored, she was hiding from me too, was quite funny really! But eventually people started filtering from the middle out to the sides because of the nature of it! So i was soon to be squashed again.... but it was well worth it!!!

Fightstar - 7/10 - average, not good, not bad.
Feeder - 10/10 - amazing set, all of them on top form, would have played Who's the Enemy, but can't have them all I guess!
Crowd - 9/10 - great atmosphere that you can only get in Newcastle, but a few there just to make trouble I think.

JEALOUSY! I WANT TO GO SEE THEM...BUT THEY'RE SOLD OUT

Sound like they were really good...haha...but mosh pit at feeder, i can do better than that...my sister told me there was a mosh pit at Fall out Boy (?!?!?!?!?)

Glad you had a good time
mr_x

I have Feeder on very very very very loud (home alone), reading the lyrics to the songs as I'm listening to them, even know I know most of them, just makes me realise how good a band they are!!

I love Feeder <- and that's the closest I'll ever get to loving a man (or 3 men really!)
