Leeds Festival, 2008 - Friday only

well, here are my normal yawnsome ramblings:

Leeds Festival can be summed up with one word.

MUD

Here is a rare photo of my daughter (I won't name her or put her full picture on here, sorry) after walking from the car park to the campsite.
It is also the only memory of her £54.99 Vans that are now no more. The mud was ankle deep on Friday morning, and ridiculous walking back and she lost her shoes and socks walking back to the car. She had to walk about half a mile in her bare feet, and while the mud was up to my shins, her feet were remarkably clean. Obviously thats how you beat festival mud   .

Anyway, mud aside, all the band ran 45 minutes later due to slipknots no show. They had the nerve to fly a plane with a banner advertising the December tour dates round for about an hour!

First up were MSI. My daughter was in her element, but something wasn't quite right - it wasn't MSI as I know them. Maybe it was bad sound, or maybe Jimmy was told to calm it (like he'd have listened anyway   ) but to be honest I was disappointed by the set, and I can't say why, I'd like to think it was for technical reasons.

As you can see we got on the barrier, which is where we pretty much managed to stay, exactly the same spot as we watched Muse in 2 years ago. Its always really quiet down by the bit where the barrier jins the advertising boards.

After a wander and a big debate on Alexisonfire - is it 'Alex is on fire' or 'Alexis on fire', we watched the Plain White T's who my daughters best friend loved, but me and her mum sat and had a natter.

We got back down on the barrier for Avenged Sevenfold, who said they had flu and played 4 songs. They did a rip roaring 'Afterlife' which made my day. I've since seen several reports that they got totally hammered the night before at the Kerrang Awards, so I think the 'we have flu' statement was perhaps a bit

Next up were Feeder, and they did a singalongagreatesthits set. The singers daughter watched from the side of the stage and had the cutest headphones on, and kept waving to her Daddy. Cutest part of the festival.

Tenacious D were better than I though, but they struggled to fill the hour slot, there was a lot of very staged 'antics' and came on in dinosaur costumes.

Obviously the headline act was Metallica, and I actually enjoyed them. My mate saw them for the first time 20 years ago, and has seen them a good 8 times. My OH has also seen them probably the same amount of times and was at most of the gigs with my friend without realising. He spent all thursday trying to steal my ticket

We started off on the barrier, but my daughters friend got a bit scared, even though it was very calm down there, and we moved ot to the side. Lots of fireworks, expolsions and they were LOUD. They also did a 2 hour set which is rare these days.

All in all a total result of a day.

ROLL ON NEXT YEAR

Sounds like good times Ali

I've never been to a big festival like that, I'd probably have a panic attack with all those people and the mud.

Not crazy about any of the bands there cept maybe Tenacious D and Feeder
Museclues

they looked more like paint splats to me.

Thoroughly good day.

I was looking at tents, maybe camping next year? I camped at Reading a couple of times in the early 90's.
Helen

seriously - camping ???!!!!??

(i dont like camping!)
hystericali

well, my daughter has everything she needs (flatscreen TV, stereo, etc as she's a real daddy's girl and one flutter of her eyelashes....) and I was thinking of what to do when she becomes a teenager next March. She asked no end of times if we could camp.

I'm thinking of trying to get weekend tickets for her birthday. If we change our mind its a 50 minute journey in the car so we could always commute
Helen

lol actually thats a pretty neat pressie idea!

Siana says her and her mates might go for the weekend next year.
