Leeds Festival (Carling Weekend)

So far, I think I'm the only one on the forum at the moment going to the Carling Weekend? Correct me if I'm wrong!

This time next week I'll be in Bramham Park, chilling out with my daughter and we'll be preparing for some band called Myooooze to rock our little worlds out later in the evening!

I've ordered a new memory card for my camera so I can record a whole 22 minutes of the set: Plug in Baby, Matts bit in Stockholm Syndrome, a bit of SMBH and MOP are the ones I think I will go for.

This is my upcoming big day out and I'm starting to get excited!
Helen

Oooooo Ali get excited for you too - we will have to have a rendez vous at Ikea so I can see what footage you get!!!

usual place, usual time then
Helen

its a date mate!!!
and I will have been paid so spend spend spend
hystericali

my new memory card turned up today, its fitted in the camera ready for lots of piccies and video capture! All I need is a decent spot on Sunday to film from!

We had a Muse medley in the car this afternoon, in preparation for Sunday, and my kids did this amazing sing along to 'Monster' by The Automatic too, the only group my daughter is truly bothered about seeing!
Helen

Ali are you gonna go have a little listen to Aiden?
wildflower

im going to Leeds toooooooo

sorry i havent been around for a while Ali, you know how it is....life!
hystericali

Helen - my daughter wants to see Aiden.....me, I'm not too fussed.

Carroll - don't worry about not being around, I understand, we will have to catch up very soon, our last conversation had me crying with laughter! We might bump into each other on Sunday!

I got a voice-mail from my friend Jane today - she met My Chemical Romance!
wildflower

aww brilliant, i got an email from one of them today, not very happy about the meadowbank gig, the treatment they got there was shocking, makes me rather ashamed to be a muse fan

i hope this weekends gigs are gonna be better for them!

yep, we'll catch up soon, im around on saturday pretty much all day, so maybe catch you then!!
hystericali

I heard bits, another one of my friends went and there were a lot of boos for MCR. (I'm from that area of Edinburgh, and would have loved to have gone)

Like I've said on here before, I've seen MCR and while they aren't every ones cup of tea, they put on a cracking show, and for this reason they deserve resect.

I'll look out for you tomorrow on here or on msn :smt023
wildflower

yeah, i mean, youre right theyre not everyones cup of tea, but they work sooo hard at what they do, to perfect things for the fans, that its just demoralising for them to have to put up with that! i dunno, im probably biased, but i wanna wrap them in cotton wool awwww

yep, ill be on msn all day today

talk to you then

Sylvie

hystericali

just a quickie - we were right on the barrier!!!!!!!!!!!!

It peed it down with rain so couldn't take many photos, but got a few and clips of Knights, SMBH and CITIZEN ERASED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

aaargh, they played Citizen Erased! OMG!

It was pretty much identical set list as Reading, but they dropped B and H for the above!

downloading clips and photos, will do full report later!

words cannot describe how immense and amazing it was
Sylvie

Wow Aliiiii !!!!!!!!!!!!
It rained but well, we don't feel it when we are living those moments as for the heat for me in NYC.
You also had Citizen and Showbiz, I'm sure it was unforgettable !!!
hystericali

it was amazing. I'm just downloading stuff now, but I have an old pc and its taking forever
hystericali

here's a taster, this is Sir Matt of Bellamy on the big screen:

(excuse the security guard, he sat on the barrier nearly all night)

hystericali

here's another one, we were at the worst possible angle, because my daughter wanted to be close, but we were at the edge for obvious safety reasons. It was nice and quiet where we were!

edit - put the wrong picture up!
hystericali

Right, here we go! Leeds Festival, general review and then Muse

Day Three of festivals are always bad, you smell 'festival smell' as soon as your nose leaves the car. Not to be put off by the whiff, my daughter insists on phoning everyone to tell them she's 'here' and we haven't even left the car park.
She then realises that when mum said the campsites were big, she meant BIG.

I get my writband and successfully find my friend Jane, her hubby and two kids, my daughter finds it hilarious that I'm searched and patted down before being let into the arena.

We head straight for the main stage and the first band on is Aiden. My daughter is allowed to sit on the barrier and get a better view. I like festivals because I always see a band I don't like and when I see them live I start respecting them because they can play, and Aiden are that band. I still don't like them, but they earn serious kudos for putting a good show on.

We sit on the grass for Flogging Molly, a crazy Irish punk/folk band that gets everyone jigging.

Its at this point I give in to my daughters demands and go to see who is on at the signing tent. Its The Automatic, and my daughter is in her element. She and my friends daughter queue up and when its our turn my daughter breezes up to the band, puts the photocard she's been given for signing, looks the guitarist right in the eye and says 'can you sign it to me please, my name is ______, that's ---,---' and spells her name out. She then proceeds to tell each band member where to sign the card and gets one of them to draw her a picture.

We return to the arena and I realise Wolfmother are on. I catch about 20 minutes of the set. They were on my ;to see list' and yes they were good, but not as good as I'd hoped. Jane and us go our seperate ways.

We go for a wander to watch The Automatic and my daughter does a passable first pogo to 'Monster' Its a good set and I'm impressed

We head back to the arena and dirty Pretty Things are on, we get something to eat and find SPOTLESS toilets. My daughters determination becomes obvious, she's had a taste of the barrier, and thats where she leads me. We end up at the extreme left of the barrier, but bless her 'it's the side Matt stands at, Mum'

I'm a bit hmmmmm about being at the front with her, but its quiet and she makes lots of friends with those around us and they make sure she has plenty room. There are a couple of nice moments when some drunken lads apologise to us both for swearing, and some other lads barged through to get to the Arctic Monkeys, but the leader spotted her and shouted 'there's a little girl here' and each one walked by us, apologised and gave her the thumbs up. You wouldn't get that respect in 'club culture'

Feeder come on and play a 'greatest hits' set, we have a brilliant time to Buck Rodgers, Pushing The Senses and they finish with Just A Day. The feel good set of the day

The Streets are next, and while I wasn't fussed, Mike Skinner is a bloody good front man, and I defy you not to join in with 'I'm not trying to pull you, even though I would like to' and you just can't keep still when he was on. Morgan watched the set from the side of the stage too.

Next up are the Arctic Monkeys. I'm interested in seeing them to see if the hype is justified, and it most certainly is. I'm cynical but 30 seconds into 'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor' and I'm OMG. That guitar is just so explosive. The devotion shown by the fans is incredible, every song is sung along to, word perfect. The Arctic Monkeys fans are a passionate lot.

By this time the glorious sunshine has gone and it hammers down with rain.

Muse

I have no idea where to start. The opened with Knights and I can only equate the Muse live experience to losing my musical virginity. Everything before was just a fumble, a 'quickie'

The songs just fly by. They do an almost identical set list to Reading, but instead of Butterflies and Hurricanes we get Citizen Erased. I am hypnotised by the song.

Matt gets stuck under his piano after Feeling Good (according to daughter who was watching the screen), and they improvise with a little blast of what I think is a Status Quo song.

Dom has a little chat with us about the rain, and I'm sure it's Chris's kids watching dad from the side of the stage.

The piano to guitar bit in New Born is spine tingling. Matt comes right to the front of the stage and teases us with a riff before kicking off properly.

Stockholm Syndrome was everything I wanted it to be, and so much more.

They finish with Take a Bow, it soars majestically, and then suddenly its all over. I wish I could remember more, I wanted to treasure every moment, but it just went so quickly.

We slip and slide back to the car as the rain has been torrential, it takes us an hour to get of the site itself, and as my daughter started to doze off under a warm blanket for a sleep in the car said 'Muse rocked'
Sylvie

I'm so impressed Ali you already did you review !!!!! I only wrote several words on several sheets of paper for mine.
I love all the details you do, this is so funny. We feel we were there too. Thanks to share this !!!

I can't believe you can see so many bands in this festival. I want to get there next year and I would love to accompany you !!!
wildflower

Ahhh Ali you said it so well!! Its a pity we didnt get to meet up, but we just couldnt see where you were at all!

Artic Monkeys really did rock didnt they? but no where near as much as muse did! i was just utterly speechless even though i looked like a drowned rat on speed hee hee!

did you manage to get out the car park ok? we almost got stuck and had to be re routed!! Great night though! apart from the mud eeeek! oh and the toilets *pukes* we went once and refused to go again!!!!!!!!

I kept turning round and looking for you, we were on the barrier next to the Fratelli's poster.

Arctic Monkeys were good! Muse were better though.......by a few kazillion miles!

The best toilets to go to are the ones at the back of the arena up where the fairground is.....we went twice and both times they were the best festival loos I have ever come across! They do the sanatized hand wipe thing too!

The car park was unbearable, I drove 10 feet in 25 minutes, it took over an hour to get off the site. We got re routed too, it was BAD.

We'll have to natter soon
Northern-Star

ALi, it sounds amazing!!! Im so glad you and your daughter enjoyed it!!

You got to see a fair few bands thats pretty cool, I quite like The Streets and Im glad they preformed well for you

Maybe Ill get to see Muse some day

Ps I'm proud of you - you know why
wildflower

Thanks Steve

i wish it wasnt all so Reading geared though, i havent actually come across one thing thats been from Leeds, not even on any of the highlights show, its all been Reading stuff, (but feel free to correct me if im wrong ) I need to move before next year
hystericali

I have video clips of the majority of Knights, all of SMBH and all of MOTP, but you can see the angle which I filmed from from my photographs and to be honest, will the clips be good enough? You only just see Matt's head and shoulders when he's at his microphone, and Chris occasionally. I can send Carroll either Knights or SMBH and she can look at it and take it from there. The clips will mainly be for the sound.

MOTP will not be available purely for the fact that my daughter appears in it and I'm sure the parents on here can understand and appreciate I don't want her face on the internet at her age.

So much for bagging us exclusive Cydonia media which was my intention!

(i have cracking clips though of The Automatic and 'Monster' and a minute of the Arctic Monkeys and 'Dance Floor!')

I hope your friends daughter is ok
wildflower

Ohh you got vids?? well if the quality is pretty bad, we can always rip the sound and just have audio? we can definitely do that for the clip where your daughter is in it? are you around on msn today? let me know and ill meet you on there?

the picture quality is very good as my camera is really decent (7.1 million pixels etc)and the sound quality is fab, its just the view was crap!

I'll be on msn mid - late afternoon.
wildflower

i dont think anyone really cares about the view, as long as the sounds good i think people will want to see it i wish they had televised Leeds though, that would have been so special! did you get the Reading set from "the website that shall not be mentioned?"
