lostprophets

not everyone's cup of tea, I know, but I love the lostprophets, and they are second in my affections to Muse. I'm addicted to seeing them live, and my claim to fame is having the top of my head in a photo accompanying a gig review in the NME in November/early December 2004. Co -incidentally Muse were on the front cover of the issue and it was where the first descriptions of the song we now know as KoC first occured. I initially only bought the NME for the Muse interview, the last thing I expected was the lostprophets gig review as they aren't an 'NME kind of band'

Anyway, cracking live band, worth checking out if you can.Put away any preconceptions about them that the music press have built up about them, and just appreciate them for what they are - a band that can pull off a damn good live show.
Helen

Ali introduced me to the delights of the gorgeous Mr Watkins and co - love em - have no idea why I hadnt listened to them before now (though I think I used to mix them up with Linkin Park  )
hystericali

Linkin Park are a good band too, on my 'to see' list

Yes, there's no denying the fact Ian Watkins is bloody gorgeous (apart from his current hair do which needs messing up  ) but I can put that aside and appreciate the music too!
Helen

Siana just bought their previous album (its in the car for a good listening right now), had actually heard some of the tracks before - but never put the 2 together! doh
hystericali

Fake Sound or Start Something? Both are good
Helen

erm not sure it has Burn Burn and Last Train home on it
hystericali

Start Something then, Burn Burn is AWESOME live, the band go mental to it!
You saw my crap recording of Burn Burn on my phone remember!
Helen

Oh yeah!
Tina

I love Lost Prophets they were one of the best bands i have ever seen live and(i think) i've seen quite a few , i brought the new cd the day it came out and can't bring myself to take it out of the cd player in my car even though i have brought a few more cds since .THAT is how much i love it
hystericali

lostprophets have put tour dates out for November and I can't go as the gigs are all too far away :smt089
Helen

Leicester is the nearest one to me but a) I have no money now and b) I always get so lost in Leicester
Poop
blackrose

ah i love Lostprophets!
I've only seen them play twice, but they really are amazing live.

hystericali

**is off to see them again on Thursday**

Aiden and Taking Back Sunday as support.

Its my mates birthday night out so wil be much fun
wildflower

whoo have fun Ali
Helen

You are gonna have fun!!!!
you taking your camera?
hystericali

maybe, I got the sat nav to take with me in my small bag, so no naughty buggers nick it, but Jue says we're at the back of the M.E.N as she only booked the tickets a few weeks ago......dunno, really.

I've seen them a few times and been on the barrier for them, so I'm excited, but not as excited as Jue (who is driving me potty with excitement)

She's still hyper after meeting MCR, she want to try and meet Ian Watkins!
Helen

oh ma gosh - Ian Watkins lol you will have to hang around to meet him for sure
hystericali

Her mum is looking after her 2 kids for her....... don't know how she'll be about us getting home for 2 or 3 in the morning!

We got in trouble for a terribly late night out a while ago

I'm excited though, but not looking forward to the drive, I hate driving through Stockport and Manchester, but I can entertain myself with thoughts of driving through Stockport where the lovely Dommykins was born......
hystericali

last night......

after a hilarious argument with the sat nav (we went up the A6 as normal and found a road that takes you right to the arena, while the sat nav kept trying to get us to take the long way round on the Mancunian Way so I just turned it off) we got to the arena.

We got to our seats at 7.20 and Aiden were on! We literally got to our row and the lights went off and had to use the lights from our phones to find seat numbers. Its the second time I've seen Aiden and they had an impressive circle pit, but the Wall of Death was forbidden.... I saw it at Leeds and can understand

Taking Back Sunday. You have to see them if you get the chance. Adam minced around and called us 'Manchesterarians'. Cracking good band live, they finished with 'MakeDamnSure' which nearly took the roof of the arena.

The prophets...... I have a special place in my heart for them, they got me back into 'this type' of music after I'd been away for a bit while having my youngest child. They got me into MCR years ago too.

I know I'll create a stir but they made the transition from the smaller venue to arena last night with style and ease. they were born for arenas. As much as I love MCR, their live show is very visual, while the prophets obviously have a good light show etc, it really is just about putting on a damn good live show, and that's exactly what they did. I've never seen a crowd so into all the bands, Aiden and TBS were worshipped as much as the prophets.

I've never seen an entire arena standing for a gig, not even MCR. The standing crowd were the most animated I've ever seen, there were always 2 circle pits on the go, usually 4. When 'Rooftops' came on I think we blew them away with our singing.

They did 'Burn Burn' three songs in which was a bit of a suprise and they did a greatest hits set, but all I wanted to do was sing and be entertained, and thats what I got. They finished with 'Shinobi'

I know I rattle on about MCR a lot but last night the prophets reminded me of a lot of things and one of them was just why i love them so much.

Forget any preconceptions you may have about Ian, their image etc and just give them a chance. They put on a f**cking good live show.
sarahbelle

sounds like you had a great night out Ali

my son likes Aiden :-)
hystericali

how could I forget the circle pit *smacks forhead in disgust*

The prophets finished with Shinobi and Ian started doing gestures for a circle pit towards the middle of the song. The first four or five rows at the barrier stayed put, but the rest of the crowd went back to where the mixing desk is in the middle of the floor and a circle pit at least a third of the MEN's floor space in size got underway. Aiden always have an impressive circle pit going but this one was incredible. I'm a seasoned gigger and have never seen one that big!

They also did the first song behind a white gauze and where their bodies were silhouted from behind onto the fabric, but with different colours which was quite impressive too. Very effective.

I always get flashbacks after gigs where suddenly I'll remember something. Ian also said in between song banter the'yll be releasing a new CD in the winter, and Jamie did a Matt Bellamy (but not as good) where he played a beautiful piece on the piano while some technicalities were sorted out. He's a good pianist. It wasn't as good as the time at Rock City last June where he started playing 'Push It' by Salt n Pepa and Ian started rapping to it in his gorgeous Welsh accent, making it a very funny piece of between song banter.
jensmuse

Really starting to like them now, i liked Ian watkin's old look like from the burn burn video but now ick!

the song 4AM forever has really spoken out to me, i keep listening to it

hystericali

booked tickets to go and see them in August, at the Sheffield Academy.

*smug*

I didn't know Sheffield had one! its on Arundel Gate and I know where that is, but other than that for the actual venue..... Steev, any clues?
Helen

whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa i wanna go see them  *goes to look for gigs*
SuperGinge

Well Helen! They are playing at the carling academy in birmingham on august 18th...and yep, i'm going to see them!!!!! My mate booked the tickets a couple of days ago!!!!!!
Also, i'm gonna go down early and queue, cause (I've heard) that they come out and greet the people who are queueing outside...so, hopefully!! haha!
Museclues

luckyyyyyyyyyy you aliiiiiiiiiii!!!i love lostprophets!

"standin on the rooftops..." "EVERYBODY SCREAM YUR HEART OUT!"

"Got it all too high got it figured out!" "I wanna do whatever
Laugh until september!!!!"

love those boys!
Helen

mmm seems only Birmingham and Sheffield then boo hiss
hystericali

and you live pretty much slap bang in the middle between Sheffield and Birmingham!

If its the driving to Sheffield, you can meet me at Junction 29 and follow us there, tis easy, trust me.

whooo! lots of prophet fans on here
Helen

I know - its not the driving so much its the I am not supposed to stand for that long - I have to be an old lady and need a seat and its all standing - oh well one day.........
hystericali

TASTY MANMEAT

SuperGinge

Mmm, very tasty..but did you see the picture of him in Kerrang a couple of weeks ago ali? I hope i see no more pictures like that..haha
But yeah, he is incredibly hot...and my two best mates have met him! The jammy sods! (eek, phrase i've picked up off my mate..haha)
But yayyy! This will be the second time i've seen them =D
Last time i saw them was at the NIA, which was quite annoying, because we got crap seats cause some of my mates didnt give me the money on time!    But it was still an amazing show!
But in August its at the carling academy! And we're going to queue for the whole day! That way i'll definately get to the front! Close enough to touch him!
hystericali

my claim to fame is going to see the prophets back in 2004 and we got on the barrier. The NME did a gig review, did a shot from the back of the stage and the top of my head is in the picture!

The barrier is a good place to be for the prophets

Another Rock City gig goer.

I tell you, it is the best venue in the country
Helen

Agrees with Ali on that front! Yay Rock City =D
purple_museaholic

Lost prophets are brill! I rememeber a time when i did not like this band but they bought a really brill album and i have like them ever since. Its called Liberation Transmission.
hystericali

I may spontaneoulsy combust as its the prophets gig on Thursday.

see, I remembered
hystericali

*waits for Hannah to report on the gig*
SuperGinge

haha

Only 4 days till Lostprophets! I'm so happy i could pee!

Apparently last time they played ar the carling academy they came out during the day to greet the fans who were queuing outside....hopefully they'll do it this time....it would make my year!
hystericali

well, last night! Yes, more ramblings from me. If you ever get bored then tell me to shut up.

The prophets are the band that got me back into music and especially gigging after doing the babies thing, and they will always have a special place in my heart, and yes, I actually lost count of the number of times I've seen them now

The support bands were   . Sorry.

Onto business.....

I didn't have my glasses on last night (I hate it when I get sweaty and they just won't stay on my nose) which is a major sin when Ian Watkins is on stage, so watching the clips back with glasses on means that they're fuzzy, and perfect when I take my glasses off

We were on a balcony at the back, and its an ok venue, bout the size of Rock City, and this bloody huge disco ball kept getting in the way

When Ian came on I thought it was Russell Brand! He really did look like him with his new hair and 'guyliner', but the man is sex on legs so its all good

It was a greatest hits, pre V festival warm up set list/gig, but we got two new songs and they were typically anthemic singalong mega songs. It was a perfect sing a long set, all the singles apart from Fake Sound and Make a Move (that one suprised me), and I sang my heart out to Rooftops and when Last Train Home kicked in the jumping on the balcony made it shake. They did an ear shredding Shinobi and finished with Burn Burn.

There were 2 massive circle pits going all night - some young lads were being silly and grabbing people genuinely trying to keep out the way and spinning them in, no end were going down, but the Wall of Death during Shinobi/Burn Burn was quite spectacular in an 'ooooh, be careful' kind of way. Hannah, just be careful, get right on the barrier or go on the outside.

Ian was on top form with his banter, he spent ages chatting to people in the crowd, being the perfect host throwing bottles of water out 'take a sip and pass it round', and when someone shouted 'show us your tits' he duly obliged. He performed the last song shirtless, and yes, I'm that shallow - it was one of the most pleasurable gig experiences I've ever encountered. The next one was when he bent down and we got a flash of his arse crack   . His jeans were so tight, he had to keep hoisting them up, but its these things that make the gig

Its up there with top gigs. Not as good as Rock City back in 2005, which is their best one to me so far (Gids In Glass Houses and The Blackout supported and they all did an encore which was mindblowing) but not that far behind.
SuperGinge

oooohhh, i thought you were going next thursday!

3 days till prophets!!!!
hystericali

I confused myself, I thought you were seeing them the Monday just gone

We're a right pair

Anyhow, you will have a brilliant night, trust me

SuperGinge

Oh my god. Wow.

That has to be one of the most insane gigs i've been to!

Ok...onto my review type thing...

Flash Flash Flash were utter shite....the screaming was terrible, and he went completely out of tune at one point....it was like my ears were being mugged.
The Haunts were actually quite good i thought, The singers voice went a bit strange at some points, but overall they were alright.
Lostprophets!!!!!! Oh. My. God. They were fantastic! The opening was amazing, it was a song from Lost Boys (Love that film!!!) I've got a recording on my phone and i just keep playing it over and over. I thought the song they started with (We still kill the old way) was a great choice! It got the crowd really going. They played two new songs..."It's not the end of the world, but i can see it from here" and another one....do you know what it was called ali? We also sung happy birthday to mike....cause it was his birthday the day before the gig. I loved how ian got all of the crowd involved, he taught us the chorus to the two new songs, cause when you go to a 'prophets gig...."its not just a show, its learning as well." (As said by Mr Watkins himself....god i love his accent), and he was always chatting to the crowd and throwing random stuff off the stage into the audience (never my way for some reason   ). I thought it was a great set list, although i was as surprised as you ali that they didn't play make a move and fake sound...Also...Ian was topless for most of the show! And he came right up close to where i was standing!!!!
The only complaint i had other than the first shitty support band was that it should have gone on longer! It finished at 10.30  ....i wanted them to stay on forever!

You was right Ali! I had a fantastic night! I'll post some of the good pictures up when i put them on the computer
hystericali

can't wait for piccies!

The only new song I can kinda remember was Jamie playing a fair bit of it on keyboards, and Ian telling us we had to listen to it even if we didn't want to, and there were voice recognition cameras in the venue that would trap us if hadn't been seen to be enjoying the new stuff. He's a really good frontman. Its a shame the press make out he's up his arse the whole time, I find him funny and he could give a fair few frontmen I've seen lessons in how to put on a show  .

You got most of the show with him topless?

What has he tattooed on his shoulder blades? To me, from a distance and with no specs I thought it was wings?

I knew you'd enjoy it
SuperGinge

Yeah, he said that to us as well, and then jamie just started randomly playing keyboard....he is a really good frontman, and ver funny

I'm just gonne inspect my photos to see if i have a clear one of ians shoulders
...ok result on that....none of thme are clear enough to say for definate....but i sort of remember them, and they did look a little like wings

And yes, he was topless for most of the set, and he came right over to where i was standing *swoon*....unfortunately all i have is a blurred shadowy picture of him, everyone started pushing forward when he came near us, alot of my pics are blurry

Haha...i did enjoy it...very much, first time i've seen them really upclose, cause the last time i seen them i was really far away...
And two of my friends have met him!    And he kissed one of their heads!!!!!
Helen

I am sooooo jealous of you both :p

yes they did, I love The Lost Boys with an almighty passion

Yes, the disco ball was irritating, and we were on a balcony. I remembered the venue used to be a well dodgy niteclub (yes, spelt the seedy way   )
SuperGinge

Haha....the lost boys is so damn cool! I havent watched it for a while, but when i went to lostprophets as soon as i got back i put it on

And i have the beginning recording on my Phone....and i have that song on my computer now...i am that cool...haha
hystericali

we need a Lost Boys appreciation thread!

I was about 17 (memeory problems, gone for the average) when that film first came out and I just remember watching it and going 'woaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah'
SuperGinge

They've made lost boys 2: The tribe!!!! Its not out in the cinemas....just as a box set with the first lost boys dvd...

I used to fancy that lass in it. Starr or something? I don’t remember now. But the guy who played the old man in Lost Boys also played Blossom’s grand–dad in Blossom. And he’d always have daydreams which featured that lass out of the Lost Boys!
SuperGinge

The old man as in Edward Hermann? He's in gilmore girls!
Rascaduanok

No. Barnard Hughes the Grandpa .
SuperGinge

aaah fair enough....

he has the best line in the whole film!

The last line is brilliant!
SuperGinge

Woah...i never actually did post photos from the gig...haha

I shall proceed to do that now!

They're really the only half decent ones i've got....although at the next gig i go to (Twin Atlantic! ) there should be better pictures because i have a new camera [/img]
