Motor RacingThought I would start us up a new thread Chris for Motor Racing discussions

Good plan! I feel this thread my be well used for ranting, celebrating and such.
What's your favourite form of motor racing then Helen? and favourite driver?
for me it's the British Touring Cars, favourite driver is Jason Plato, and has been since the first season I saw it in 1997.
I'm getting stupidly excited for this weekend, BTCC is back again after 6 weeks off! It's too long!

mmmm difficult to say which i like the best really. Will watch any motor racing =D suppose F1 has been my fav but is dwindling a bit as its a bit of a procession now. Ayrton Senna - watching his race with Nigel Mansell at Monaco years ago got me into it. Was a Schumacher fan too (though it took some time for me to come round to the fact he was actualy a brilliant driver), rather like Mark Webber. My son and I met him at Donnington a few years back - he was so nice and waited for me to faff around with me camera to take pics (more so that Damon Hill who didnt want to talk to anyone).
Like Touring cars too - yes Jason Plato probs would be me fav, havent really watched much of it as they dont seem to show it on the tv at the right time
Am more into Moto GP at the minute - far more exciting than F1, Rossi can pull wins from nowhere, though he has got some competition now!
ooo that was a long post =D

I'm not a fan of the bikes personally... I think Rossi just needs a slap in the face with a fish... He really does have one of those hittable faces!
I don't know what it is, but I like my motorsport of 4 wheels rather than 2.

the BTCC is always shown live on ITV4 on a sunday afternoon, they usually have 5 hours of coverage, but it's a bit different for the next 2 meetings, I dunno what it is for them. the www.btcc.net website is best place to find out!
1 person to keep an eye on in the BTCC is Andrew Jordan... He's only 19 and was going just as fast, if not faster than Plato and Giovanardi at Thruxton this year which was just fantastic!! I was so gutted his car broke in that race he would have been on the podium if it hadn't.

Does Matt Neal still drive, havent watched it for a while - will check out ITV4 (never think of looking there )
Edit: answered my own question - I just looked on the web site doh

yeah unfortunately he does... I hate him, stuck up arse he is! He's turned into an arogant git since he started winning races and championships. Never his fault kinda person when it blatently is.
Helen
lolz =D
mr_x
Jason Plato... Pole position at Snetterton!
Excellent stuff... Bring on tomorrow!!
Helen
Do you ever watch the Porcshe super cup? thats usually quite an exciting thrash around too.
mr_x
Yeah they're pretty good. Shame the BTCC support field of Porsches isn't overly big.
Adverts before the first BTCC race for 6 weeks... I'm excited more so than I have been all weekend.
I just wish ITV would give it back to the BBC, no adverts and Charlie Cox commentating again. He was legendary!
mr_x
Well I enjoyed the races yesterday - it was certainly quite physical further down the field, Race 3 was a downer though, both Plato and Turner retired with Engine problems.
Worst thing is, despite 2 wins, JP only gained 7 points on Giovanardi yesterday. I was watching Gio in race 3 leaping over the kerbs (pic below) hoping he'd break something on his car and retire, but it wasn't to be.
Helen
is that sparks under the car
I never got to watch - had to go shopping then my OH wouldnt change channel - had to suffer some war film shit. (he dont like morotracing)
And yes the BBC should have the coverage back! I hate adverts.
mr_x
Yep those are sparks! Plenty of them too, he was hitting those kerbs like that lap by lap... His car should have died...But I suppose he is known as the best touring car driver in the world, so he must have known it wouldn't break.
Your other half should give touring cars a go, alot of non-motorsport fans like touring cars mainly because of the edge of the seat action lap after lap.
Race 1 by touring car standards was a bit dull, but they were saving it for races 2 and 3.

ever so slightly off subject but still cars I WANT AN AUDI R8 - how good looking is that car! (well I think so) I had one behind me, then in front (coz my car aint that speedy) on my way to work, mmmmmmmmmmmm must win the lottery or summat!
mr_x
Nah I don't like the R8 too much... I'd much prefer a brand new Ford Focus RS
http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news...essnews/223509/ford_focus_rs.html
an amazing looking car... the colour is even growing on me!
2.5l turbocharged engine with 300bhp compared to my current Focus that's a 1.6l engine with 117bhp.
Helen
Nice looking car, bleurgh to the colour though!
mr_x
yeah, I wouldn't have it in that colour, I'd have it in the same dark blue the old RS had.
Helen
dont mind those orange Focus ones though!
Helen
Well ... pleased Lewis won, coz he is British but cant be doing with McLaren coz Ron Dennis is too far up his own ass.
Was listening to James Allen and Martin Brundle talking about Alonso maybe moving to Ferrari in the future (near future) noooooooooooooo if that happens I shall not be watching F1 again
mr_x
Not pleased he won at all... still hate him! I still think there are better drivers than him out there, it's just the fact the Mclaren is the best car. Ferrari are falling apart, and BMWs challenge has faded somewhat.
I might actually watch the next race with ITVs Hamilton bumming turned off and have BBC 5 Live coverage on instead.
Helen
Hamilton got round Mass and Piquet far too easily - not great racing.
However (though I know you dont like Moto GP Chris) but the race last night at Laguna Seca was fab - the first 5 laps were raced like it was the last lap - Rossi and Stoner. Stoner was such a mardy loser. Rossi did out class him even though the Ducati is faster in a straight line. (Not that I am a mega Rossi fan)
mr_x
I hate Rossi... he has a hittable face, much like Lewis Hamilton and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Touring cars are back next weekend, and I shall be watching them with a hangover after a party in Notts on saturday night. :p
Helen
lol Ronaldo does havea slapable face too!
mr_x
I was gutted for Plato again last weekend... Once again he won the first race, then his car let him down again in race 2, causing him to start at the back for race 3, where he got involved in somebody elses crash.
I still enjoyed the racing though!
Helen
Did you watch the F1 yesterday? I didnt bother I am fed up of James Allen and his love for Lewis Hamilton. I also cannot stand Damon Hill (met him at Donnington a few years back, not a nice man, very rude)
Also did you see the Best of Top Gear? had Touring car drivers racing motorhomes, most amusing =D
mr_x
Nah I didn't see the F1... But I heard that James Allen's bumboy got a flat tyre... shame... Glad to hear Heikki won, finally!
I met Damon Hill at Donington this year, and he seemed like quite a nice bloke!
I've seen that top gear before... Touring Car drivers aren't the right people for 'non contact'
I watched the World Rally this weekend... those guys are mentalists! Doing 120mph+ through forest roads no wider than a Ford Focus, over massive jumps and fast sweeping corners... With trees on the side of the road... It takes balls!
This sums up how mad they are:

Haha...it was funny when lewis hamilton got a flat tyre...cause he was in second, and went down to twelth...but he finished about 5th...i think...Its was funny watching the cars drive past him though
And massa (i think thats how you spell his name...??) went out 3 laps before the end...and he was winning!
Best of top gear was great helen! I loved when Jeremy had the peel car....that was so funny
Helen
Top gear does make me laugh, I hope they bring it back.
Chris, maybe we go Damon on a bad day! - he was well grumpy though
SuperGinge
I think they ended top gear early, cause (apparently) richard hammond is going to be on strictly come dancing this year...
Helen
haha that should be a laugh!
SuperGinge
Definately! I think i'll watch it this year just for the hamster
mr_x
I won't know what to do with myself next sunday!
BTCC from Knockhill - on ITV4 from 12:30-5.30pm
WRC on Dave (weekend review) in the evening
Football (Scumchester UTD vs the Toon) in the afternoon too!!
I'm gonna be lost!
BTCC always comes first though.
SuperGinge
Since you mentioned football chris....
WOOOOO! BLUES WON!!!!
TAKE THAT SHEFFIELD!
Ok...i'm done now
Helen
very limited in football knowledge but who are the blues?
I think the pomey wear blue but am guessing it aint them that you are talking about!

I think she means Birmingham, as they played Sheffield yesterday.
SuperGinge
Haha Yeah!
I'm a bluenose
Although we do have a pretty shitty team...i'm still dedicated
mr_x
Less than 1 hour until I'm stuck infront of the telly for 5 hours.
Touring Cars are back!!! 12:30pm ITV4!
If quali has anything to do with it, the first 16 cars were covered by less than a second, and inside that top 16, 5 cars were covered by 3/100ths, with 4 of those 5 covered by 3/1000ths!!!
I can't wait.
Helen
i had to go out yesterday afto but caught the Motogp, was a bit boring really though Stoner fell off which was funny!
mr_x
ah you missed some brilliant racing yesterday... Jason Plato won 2 races, but then crashed out of the 3rd after trying to overtake Tom Onslow-Cole who drives for Vauxhall.
In an interview just after that JP said:
"Tom is driving like a prat, which he's employed to do!"
He has a way with words!
That retirement means he's only gained 3 points on Giovanardi I think it's definately over now.
mr_x
a very wet BTCC weekend last weekend... Brilliant racing though.
Unfortunately it went downhill for Plato again, he won race 1, but races 2 and 3 his tyres wore down too quickly and he ended up with no grip at all so went backwards to 6th and 5th. He's now 44 points behind Giovanardi with 51 points (if I can count) up for grabs in the finals weekend in just under 3 weeks time...
I'm certainly hoping to see the biggest fightback in BTCC history! But doubt it - Giovanardi is too consistant.
Giovanardi punted Darren Turner off (twice) in race 2 - to which Turner said "if he wins the championship like that he's not a worthy champion"
A very tense few weeks is upon me!
Helen
I never managed to watch any - my OH had gone out but came home early and he is a miserable git when it comes to decent things to watch on tv.
SuperGinge
ok, i am watching it this sunday! i am back off holiday, so i actually have a signal on my tv!
Helen
So's I come in half way through the F1 race - whaaaaaaaaaats going on? where are Ferrari and McLaren? WHY THE FOOOK IS ALONSO LEADING? he needs to crash, stall run out of full, have an engine blow up or summat, smarmy git.
I know noone really likes MotoGP - but can tbelieive Rossi just won his 8th world championship this morning, where did that come from?
mr_x
You missed Massa's pitlane mess up - although they've shown what happened to him after race. Absolutely hilarious, I was in stitches laughing at Ferrari!
Just a shame Hamiltwat finished 3rd... The only person I want to see win the world championship is Kubica... I hate Hamilton and Ferrari. Although like Raikkonen as a driver... Just a shame his team is a complete joke!
Helen
yep just seen it now! woopsy eh.
Seems Rosberg did well for saying he had a stop and go in there. Still didnt see what caused all the hoo harr though think it was to do with Piquet?
Excitement always happens when I am out!
mr_x
Rosberg would have won if it wasn't for the silly F1 pitstop under safety car rules... Closed pitlane in a race that requires refuelling is just stupidity if you ask me!
Helen
I so would have preferred Rosberg to have won
mr_x
I miss the touring cars.
Only another 174 days, 13 hours and 33 minutes to go.

| mr_x wrote: | | Only another 174 days, 13 hours and 33 minutes to go. |
It's good to see you aren't counting down.
Helen
looks set for another dull F1 race, though depends if Kimi and Lewis take each other off.
Helen
so Lewis won the championship....... call me cynical but I think it was a fix. Dont get me wrong I do think Lewis is a good driver (would be better if he wasnt in Mclaren) and probs did deserve to win the championship but I think James Allen paid Glock to slow down on the last corner - pah, wasnt the wet at all.....
Massa was robbed.
mr_x
I know I was sick of his face already, but I find myself even more sick of his face than I was on friday.... Especially from the last 24 hours!! Little prick he is.
SuperGinge
Haha...
I felt really sorry for Massa, when they zoomed in on him crying....i wanted to give him a hug...haha...
Its was such a shame, he had the title snatched away from him at the last moment...maybe next year though...
Helen
all I want to say is go Brawn GP !
Jenson Button is like a different person this year! I never really liked him as he appeared arrogant during interviews - not this year - I thinks he will be much better than Lewis Hanilton!
Its nice to have a mix of different teams competing at the front too.
mr_x
JENSOOOOOOOOON!
Touring Cars have still been better this year, first 2 meetings have been fantastic and has set it up for a brilliant season! So far 6 different winners from 6 races.
