New album thread - now called 'The Resistance'From NME online:
"Muse frontman Matt Bellamy has revealed his plans for the band’s future.
The star explained that he’d like their next album to feature more prog influences as well as a dancier feel.
Talking to NME, the singer and guitarist said: "I think on the next album I’d like to do at least one 15-minute space-rock solo."
He added: "Apart from that, ‘Supermassive Black Hole’ (2006 UK Top Five single) opened up a new area for us of dancing, grooving, rhythm section-dominated songs. I’d love to do more stuff like that really."
Read more about Muse’s future plans, including their new focus on singles and their forthcoming headlining V Festival performance, in this week’s NME, out in all good newsagents now.é
i also heard on the French radio this morning that Muse would put out singles for vote on the Internet, and the songs that got the more votes would be included on the next album.
What do you think?

I think they are just throwing 'out there' idea's about, it gives people things to think about and a good article for print.
I'm sure we'll see another album on next release.
..and if it does turn out to be a 20 minute symphony or just singles, I'm sure it will work, Muse would make it work.

oh yeah sunburn your definatley right.dom said :::somewhere::: that theyre gonna release another album, with mmoe classical and electronic influenece/feel. do yu think they'll ever do a greatest hits album?
|
SuperGinge
|
To be honest, it doesn't really matter what format they release them as, be it a load of singles, or just one album, as long as they keep producing the same quality of music they have been since they came around, it does'nt matter does it? I know i'll still buy it, and i'm pretty sure that there aren't gonna be many people who won't just 'cause of the way its been put out. And if there are people who do, they obviously aren't very big muse fans are they? so it doesn't matter.

yeah, but here in the U.S.[darn U.S. pople tend to not care about singles, more about albums to get the whole deal. especially if it has b-sides, cause singles and b sides are hard to get her in america
except for lime and frost wire
|
SuperGinge
|
well maybe it would be better for them to release it as a whole album in america wouldn't it? but would you not buy their music just cause its in a single instead of an album? I think they are just experimenting on ways to release their music to the world....to be honest, i don't mind how they release it, it doesn't really matter that much, its the quality of the music that matters.

10 points of r a great answer, starlight in the gloom!
i dont mind how they would release cause i have frostwire to get all my b sides
i like the album feel better honestly...but i wouldnt mind singles, cause they have more than one b side!
|
SuperGinge
|
yeah, i get what you mean, i prefer the album format just cause it means im listening to loads of the songs instead of just 2 or 3, and its easier to store in my music collection, but i'd still buy their music however they release it, cause they are just an amazing band

Future plans
After a number of rumours about Muse playing Reading and Leeds Festivals circulated around Wikipedia as well as other rumour websites, Dominic Howard said to NME "we will not be playing the Leeds and Reading festivals, and we believe this rumour to have been started by an 'anti-fan' hoping to get Muse fans' hopes up. Some people need to grow up. We apologise for any inconvenience, but we will be indeed playing more shows over the summer so stay tuned."
In an interview given in May 2007 to Kerrang!, Muse stated that work on a new album and new songs, some more in line with electronic or "dance music" and others more with classical or symphonic music had begun. The band are also thinking of hiring an orchestra for some of the tracks. They also revealed that the next album should be self-produced, in order to have more freedom. In an interview in a January 2008 edition of NME, Matt Bellamy stated that he is not sure of what format the new songs are going to take, stating, "it may just be albums, but it may be a stream of singles, or it may just be one 50-minute symphony, do you know what I mean? Who knows?" The new songs will be released sometime in 2009. Bellamy also said in an NME interview that he wanted to do a "15 minute space-rock guitar solo". [37]
In October 2007 interview with the Daily Star, Dominic Howard continued the idea of more electronic music, saying “We think it might have quite an electronic feel. Normally we need total time out from touring to sit down and reflect but this time round it feels different. We’re buzzing at the moment.” [67]
In May 2008 interview with BBC Music6, Dominic Howard confirmed that they are recording the new album. “About a week ago we just started on some new stuff and actually started playing some new tracks and writing some new songs. So we are just getting the ball rolling again,” he told BBC 6Music. “We’ve been off the kind of creative period for so long, being on tour, so once you get back together - you have to start thinking that kind of way. You have to kind of push that ball and get it rolling. And we did it and it sounded great so we got a few tracks together and it’s coming along so that’s what we’re doing right now.”
Asked what the new album would sound like, Howard said that it was too early to ascertain a specific sound.
“You get a whole bunch of ideas in the can and it’s not until later on that you actually decide what they should sound like and where they should go really,” he said, before adding that “it’s really exciting times.”

From muselivecrap.com :
A former publicist for Warner Music has announced that a September '09 release date has been earmarked for Muse's currently untitled new album. Muse have been working on their latest offering for nearly 2 years now, and September seems to be a reasonable time for its release.
September? that means 7 more months!!! dammmn

Sorry to re-quote myself from nearly a year back, but have heard again that there will be a 3 part song with symphony? I'm thinking a very long 'Butterflies and Hurracaines'esque' maybe?
I can't wait!

Heard that too.. it was one of the "early rumours".
Silverchair did a three part song on their last album, it's one of their best songs (Those thieving birds, if you want to check it out) - if Muse did something similar, i bet it'd be awesome..

Yeah, i know in alot of interviews Matt/Dom/Chris have mentioned this 'massive epic song' as the last three songs on the album, and Dom called it a 'Symphonic monster' and in the questions thing one of the board members asked about it...and Dom said;
| Quote: | | It’s a big piece that has three different parts that all belong together to make one track. Kind of three songs in one. It starts quite mellow and ends up very heavy indeed whilst moving through a few genres to get there. Dom. |
So it looks like it is actually gonna happen, and it wasn't just one of those things that Matt says...
|
ashentara
|
yeah, I'd really love them to do something similar to this - I think it'd be a hell of a song.
A tryptic, is that what it's called?
anyways, sorry about the Chair OT here, but it seemed appropriate - and well you guys are well aware of my other musical obsession

There haven't been any more major updates, although dom's myspace now has a little blog about the album, i'll get a link for it

It's actually insane how excited I am already. FOUR MONTHS, PEOPLE! EEEEEEEEEEEEK!
|
ashentara
|
shall we do an official countdown thing?
oh, maybe we need the official release date
what about the first single - a month before the album, is that reasonable wishful thinking??
|
Ham of the Problematique
|
AAAAAAAAAAAAH! A single before the album! Eeek! I reckon that's about right, looking at history.
|
SuperGinge
|
We should do an official countdown!
Especially when we know the actual date of the album release!
|
Ham of the Problematique

So are we taking bets? September dates?

September 13th.

*FLIPS OUT AND DIES*
I'm going to the Liverpool, Birmingham and both O2 Arena gigs... is that greedy?
|
ashentara
|
No it's perfectly normal by my standards lol
I'm going to at least two in France, and maybe more in the UK if I can manage it!!
|
Ham of the Problematique
|
That's the spirit!
|
ashentara
|
Got my ticket today yipeeeee
but is it me or did it just become really expensive to be a Muse fan?
tickets for the Paris show were 47 euros a piece.. something like 50 pounds
is it the same for the UK?
|
Ham of the Problematique
|
Well, with all the extra fees it came to about £42 a ticket for me. Not as bad but still. Ouch! (Especially multiplied by 4!)
|
ashentara
|
I know, it's a lot more than for the previous tour isn't it?
I'm not sure who decides the ticket fees (I mean, I'm not sure the band has a lot to say about it) but I've already heard a lot of people say that it was waaaaay too expensive
I'm pretty sure that it will be sold-out anyway, but I just hope it won't keep on increasing like that
next tour, it's gonna be half a months salary to get a ticket at this rate..
|
Ham of the Problematique
|
Well prices for everything are rising, I guess it can't continue forever. At least I hope not!
|
ashentara
|
I'm thinking of upping my fees with a disclaimer saying "eh, Muse tickets are more expensive now"
lol
|
Ham of the Problematique
|
Seems entirely fair to me!
|
ashentara
|
Me too!!!
We'll see if my clients agree.
I might have to educate them though. Pfff.
|
SuperGinge

You totally should.
I may ask work for a rise with that excuse!
I've got a Birmingham ticket, I also want to get Sheffield and London, but I can only get them if the 'rents say yes...
|

We have to get people at Sheffield! It's where me and Helen will be!
|
SuperGinge
|
If my parent's let me, i'm gonna get a seated ticket for sheffield next month.
But i'll have to find accomodation as well!
|

I'm headed for Birmingham!
