Religion continued.............

I believe in the supernatural. I worked in a haunted pub for years and when you see a glass go horizontally from a shelf, go a good two feet away from the shelf and not just smash from dropping, but with force as if thrown, then it kind of makes me wonder and yes, I did question my sanity, but I'll never forget the look on my mums face. The nearest person was probably 5 foot from the glass and no one was on the working side of the bar where it happened.

Too much happened in that pub. The stairs up to the attic made me poo my pants everytime I had to go and cash up in the office, the catch on the cellar door used to rattle when there was only me there (we had one cellar key only) and no matter how much I rationalised nothing can explain the goosebumps and the feeling of knowing someone was there that just happened to be invisible.

Still, you can't beat the time one of the lads was in the cellar bottling up with me, farted and tried to blame it on the paranormal

whoa that sounds freaky Ali, i love stories like that!

Yes, that's the reason I'm logging of now! I believe in ghosts, but not in Karl or Stuart
wildflower

hehe yeah they make me laugh, everything seems to happen when Karl and Stu go off on their own! i love it though, great entertainment
Rascaduanok

Well, I selected the (misspelt ) atheist, but I don’t consider it or my beliefs religious. I started off a ‘believer’ in Islâm and grew up in a muslim household, but I don’t believe in it, and realised I didn’t believe in the concept of a deity as the majority of people usually understand it.
hystericali

another interesting view point ^^

I think my atheism stems from the fact that my dads mum really pushed for me to be baptised into the Church of Scotland - Episcopalism?
Basically my mum wanted me to be protestant, but her mother in law kicked up such a stink my mum did it to shut her up and keep her off her back.

I think this has some deep seated thing in me where I'm 'the wrong religion' in my mums eyes, I'm not the religion she wanted me to be if that makes sense. I know so little about it. I know I wasn't christened, I was baptised, but I'm not a catholic? This episcopal thing ring bells, I think it was an episcopal church. It has had no ill effects on me and my mum though, my mum has been wonderful and let me be free to follow my own heart and I really think it has alot to do with the fact my children were 'born out of wedlock' and they have no religion. If they wish to go down that route then they find the thing that 'floats their boat'

however, I do believe in the afterlife! I'd like to think I have such a strong bond with my kids and my home I'd keep popping in to see them.

i dont alil but hey, if i did u and i could come back as rocks!

so is matthew athiest or agnostic? cause i know he stated that he's clearly athiest but i found on muse wiki[and a vid on youtube that he believes in a God that made the universe or somethin:

From MuseWiki:
"However, more recently Bellamy has shown signs of being an Agnostic or a Deist. In an interview with a Rock Music channel in France (2006), Bellamy states, "I believe in the God of the universe, definitely." In addition, he revealed in a 2007 video inverview that, "I don't believe in heaven or hell, I don't really believe in that version" (watch)."

heres the the link for the vid of you guys wanna watch it:

did you watch last nights most haunted live ali? what did you think??
Sunburn

Seems like he's one of those that change their minds. Atheists do not believe in any higher power at all, so to make that statement about believing in a God, it clearly shows he isn't an Atheist.

Though, who's to say he doesn't change his views on it from time to time.

While I respect some that believe in their followed faith,  I think it causes too many Wars and trouble for the world. Look at all the trouble of recent times and beyond, it all comes back to certain faiths. I also don't agree with how someone that is born into a faith practised by the parent's has to then go and follow and then there's certain rules of a faith, that people have to abide to.

Life is for living which is obvious, so do not think it should be dictated by faith  to an extent that it gets in the way of everyday life.

I saw it. Karl couldn't help himself can he, has to go and act something out before the program finishes. That new guy seems like Derek all over again, but the way that last guy was treated (David Wells?) it was obvious he wasn't going to go back again.
hystericali

Are we talking about Thursdays one in the crypt? They're in the same place but the monastry part tonight.

I just have issues with Karl and Stuart, and I'm starting to get hmmmm over Kath.

I think the new medium seems a bit more gentle than Derek, he had a showman side to him. I prefer David though, out of all of them I feel he was the most genuine and the one I'd want to talk to in a social situation. That's how I judge people on the TV -  'would I want a beer with them if I met them?'

I think Karl is getting more desperate to prove things, and I'm scared he will make a mistake and throw everything away with a careless move.

Gosh, that's a bit of a rant from me there, sorry, my opinions again, once I start there's no stopping me.

As for the religion debate, Sunburn, I like your thinking. You articalate what I'm trying to say much better than I can.

Anyhow, I must get back up to school, I nipped home as I forgot my sarnies. Spelling tests this afternoon and then topic work on outer space
TreeHeart

Sunburn I agree with you on all you said, especially following your parents religion.
My boyfriends mother basically disowned him after he told he was an atheist. He had been one since 12 and told her in his teens. It was not pretty as he tells it.
She recently sent us this grotesque medal from Turkey where they have a house. It has this scary evil eye on the end and other religious stuff. I'll get a picture and post it up. So she has totally forgotten about him being atheist after all the hassle she caused!
wildflower

Yeah i know what you mean, as soon as i heard Karl say he wanted to go and confront the figure that he saw i thought "oh oh, here we go again" I thought there was a lot of activity last night, but im not sure if it was above board, you didnt really see that much of karl and Stuart, so i guess they could have been doing the chucking of stones and the crying etc. I just dont know what to think, i HATE this new guy, i think hes totally shit, he cant hold together these investigations, when Yvette asks him something, like for a name or a year, he pretends that hes seen a shadow, scares them all to death with his "oh my god" stuff, and then hopefully by that time, Yvette has forgotton that shes asked him a question! bring back Wellsy! of course he would never go back, but he has been the best by far!! I loved the dog bit on last nights investigation!

Having ranted, i have to say i still love this prog

sunburn's got a point...

religion is a reallly big controversy. A big debate. And i mean BIG   i really dont like how some people get all like "OMG WE'RE NOT THE SAME RELIGION?U SUCK..."anybody, no. EVERYBODY can be friends even though were different. i dont like it either when people say someone else's belief is wrong too. thats like saying your face or hair color is wrong. we're all different, and i truly respect other people and thier religion, cause thats who they are whther they were forced to or not. i just dont like the idea in my opinion when others take it too far like suicide bombers[not naming a specific religion] or they jump off a bridge because God told them too. but, i respect how everybody is....

this is a good discussion.
TreeHeart

Did anyone else who grew up in a religious house have those Holy pictures? We had a jesus at the top of the stairs, which was right outside my door and always scared me, but my bf had one on his staircase that has those eyes that follow you and he was always terrified of it as a kid lol

Here is the picture of this scary medal.
Sunburn

So have you found a place in your house for that medal Northern-star?
TreeHeart

haha It is currently on my desk somewhere after that picture before that, it was in a drawer. I'll take offers if anyone is interested? If not I'll fob it off to someone on my side of the family
Museclues

fob?lol.....my friend says that all the time and im like what?

well in my house we dont have pictures...my granda has it ALL though. i luv her....but she is all into the luck idea, and i dont...she has a ton of pictures and little statues..
Museclues

woah! the topi just died down and got really quiet... really quiet! *dances cause no ones around* we need more lpay around here! or excitment! princess of emoticons!
TreeHeart

we had some religious folks knock on our door yesterday, trying to convert us. Stephen said sorry we are atheists and the guy was like "oh, I see" he still kept waffling though haha We are always very nice to them, I would never be rude to them at all. Never found out what religion it was.
They are the 3rd people to knock in the last year, 1st was the usual Mormen dudes in their white shirts and tie and backpacks, second was two women Jehovah Witness's and those new dudes. They are coming to this pagan rock to convert us all! haha
Museclues

lol that happens here in L.A. all the time...except sometimes they ask us to donate so they can pay for college, and join their cult!
wildflower

we used to get a lot of religious bible bashers around here too, but the next door neighbour set his two german shepherds on them and they never came back hehe, i know i shouldnt laugh, but it was kind of funny
hystericali

I  think our 'gothic' style is well known in the neighbourhood and we get left alone now by the door knockers. I think all the Jehovah's Witnesses think we're too busy biting bats heads off and doing occult dances in the back garden. Just because my daughter is developing her own punky-emo style and I drive a black car and listen to ''strange music ''

Dontcha just love suburbia
TreeHeart

lol Ali, I wish they would compile a list and share it with all the religious peeps, so we don't get any more.

He also asked Ste what religion his family where, he said catholic and he jumped on it, all oh and this must cause some tension, Ste was like no... They still gave us directions to their praying place
Rascaduanok

Ask those people if they believe in fairies and accuse them of ‘afairyism’ if they say they don’t. Tell them that technically they should call themselves ‘fairy agnostics’ because they can’t DISPROVE the existence of fairies…

Yes I am a firm believer in the Flying Spaghetti Monster

I have yet to read any of Dawkins books, but I have seen him on tv and a documentary he did and I was very interested in his ideas.
He is on my book shelf, but the next book I have is "Letter to a Christian Nation", by Sam Harris
Museclues

lol..how about that big bang theory?! i love science so much, especilally the universe, but religion is in a battle against the idea of the creation of the universe....big bang theory says there was some mega atom and it got hot then boom! we came along adn stufffs.but religion says [from the verses of genesis]how God created it and stufffs.

and its funny cause the person who came up with the big bang thing was a catholic priest in like 19hundred something....

now scientists have bent the theory so they say it goes along with the story....any thoughts guys?

Speaking honestly, wrt Dawkins, I prefer those of his books which deal with his chosen profession: evolutionary biology. The Blind Watchmaker and The Ancestor’s Tale make for fascinating reading and utterly disprove the idea of a sentient anthropomorphic deity that ‘created’ humankind without Dawkins having to specifically say so.

hystericali

I've just started reading The God Delusion. I think I'm going to like this book

I've only got as far as the preface, but I'm liking what i'm reading
TreeHeart

The idea of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, is the non believers way of saying god is not real, you can't see him, there is no evidence he exists, so why not say you believe in the FSM? There is as much truth to him as there is to god!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flying_spaghetti_monster

I'm going to read the God Delusion after Freakonomics.

Hope you enjoy it Ali.
