This is something very close to me and I want to share it and hopefully get some more support

For all of you that don't know, Croft Circuit is a race track located in the North-East of England, and is the closest track to where I live (~40 minute drive away from home). The next nearest track is Donington Park - 4 hours away.

Croft is under threat from somebody who lives 300 yards from the track. This track started motorsport in the 1920s, and was then an airfield after the 2nd world war into the 60s. It was then made into a race track again and was re-built in 1995 to host major motorsport events. I have been going there every year since 1997 when I was 9 years old, 1997 was also the first year the British Touring Car Championship went there (my favourite motorsport of ALL!), to see the circuit lose that would be a huge blow to the many thousands of fans who go there from not just the North-East but from Europe too... That place gets crowds bigger than nearby Darlington Football Club.

So, why is it being shut down?

Well, the people who live 300 yards from the track have decided after 14 years that it's suddenly too noisey - despite the fact the noise HAS been there for the last 14 years.

BUT, it goes deeper than this:

- They moved there to work at the track.
- Their daughter was married to the circuit owner
- They were fine with the noise for 14 years, suddenly it's too much. (as stated above)

This has revenge against an ex-husband written all over it, it has nothing to do with the noise levels (as they say it is), just "give us money" all over it.

If Croft Circuit lose the appeal then it could be the start of the end of Motorsport in the UK as it would allow people nearer other circuits to do the same thing. Which would be a massive loss, as it's the 4th most popular sport after Football, Rugby and Cricket and a lot of people are fans of it without realising it (if you watch it on TV for instance) so it's possibly above Cricket.

A group has been set up on facebook and already has over 5,000 members in 3 days.

i could happily listen to the sound of cars/bikes racing all day long, I love the noise more than anything else.

Its ridiculous if thats the reason they want it closed. Revenge is no reason to ruin it for real fans.

Well judgement day was yesterday, and Croft Circuit lost the appeal.

No idea if it's being shut down - just depends how much the circuit owners can afford.

They've had their 'noisey days' reduced to 40 days a year. Currently I think they were running 95 days - so that's over half of it cut... I suppose we'll have to wait and see what the circuit says about it all.

There's an event happening there this sunday which I plan to attend (was going to anyway before all this kicked off) but now I have more reason to attend it to show support for the circuit along with a few thousand other people.
