and if there were scientologists on the forum then would it pose you a problem?
Again, we come back to your fondness of freedom of expression and yet you appear to be against a religion that doesn't match your view point
....you feel you can say 'wtf' about Scientology, but what if someone said 'wtf' about some of your comments what would your reaction be?

So long as I was free to voice my opinion about thm, no. And if I was'nt, then I would'nt. So, am I or are'nt I allowed to voice opinions or should I politely leave you in peace? I'd be perfectly happy to.

I have nothing against Julz and her free will to believe whatever she wants to.

I'd engage them in conversation.

Anyway, Scientlogy is a dangerous cult founded by a peadophile.
If you doubt this but would like to know more, I'd reccomend Hubbard's sons book on his experiances with his father and the church.

Mr C, while many of us would possibly agree with your negative opinion of the Scientology cult, statements such as the ^above^ are not necessarily factual, but rather, personal opinions;that kind of strident standpoint doesn't exactly encourage debate, really, which is effectively what this particular forum is about. Freedom of speech is a wonderful thing, but it really should be measured, I feel...and your way of expressing certain opinions seems to have upset others, sooooo please try to express your opinions in a less forceful, more refined manner;it's obvious that you have the intelligence to do this, so please match your intelligence with your sensibility. Thanks

Actually, I think it is fact, seeing as his son testifies to bieng raped by him under oath, and the fact that Hubbard lived on yacht at one point, surrounded by boys.
Thats sort of like asking me to not offend Islam by asking me not to recognise that it's Imams are'nt preaching Jihad and punishment of rape with rape in return, but to say that they're actually not to bad and not at all psychotic and actually are just a little pissed becous they have to live in the desert, where Muse never play.
I'm not entirely sure why I rubed ALi the wrong way, but it's not becous I happen to not like Scientology.
But I'll refrain from talking about religion in the future then. 8)

Anyway Steve, why do you think freedom of thought/expression should be policed amongst conseting adults? Just curious...

I don't think anyone minds you discussing religion, but rather it's the manner in which you've discussed it recently. I know that none of the staff want to start locking threads, issuing warnings etc etc - being Draconian about this helps nobody.
This isn't Muse.mu, and we really don't want that kind of atmosphere here, so please bear this in mind when you post controversial opinions
While it's true that some might be offended by your way of stating your opinions more than others might be, I'm sure a person of your undoubted talents will find a way of expressing yourself more clearly (and diplomatically) in future. Cheers

It's a question of 'right time, right place', m8 - it should be obvious to you that you won't get the kind of 'free-for-all', rough n' tumble debate here that you might get at other forums, so cut your cloth accordingly

Okey dokey and thanks for the flattery m8te. But it would have been good to have heard from Ali where I was actually ''going wrong'' instead of silly, non-sequiter finger waving.

Totally agree again, it is not WHAT you are discussing, rather HOW you are discussing it.

''This is the place for more serious discussions and topics, be it political, environmental, current affairs, or things that don't fit in the more light hearted General Chat thread.
Personal opinions can be expressed, but things like religious hatred, bullying, homophobia and racism for example will not be acceptable.
If you are using this forum please do so with consideration for each other, and their opinions, even if the opinion does not quite match your own.''
Well, I beg to differ that I was bullying or showing hatred or flaming.
I've allready got a number of Private Messages telling me to fuck off, so I will.

I live in the town Hubbard supposedly started it all up or something, so you get a lot of Scientologists in the town asking if you want to take a "stress test" or something, but of course, you're always free to refuse. Sometimes I find it a bit creepy, but that's just because I don't understand it, and what we don't understand can be terrifying. Most of the time, however, it doesn't bother me. While I don't necessarily agree with a lot of their policies etc, they're not doing me any harm, and nor am I, them.
Whenever you ask someone about scientology you get a totally different explanation of what it is. I once sat through a talk by an scientologist turned christian about it, and she explained how it all works and so on (though in a pretty damning way). But I've also heard completely different explanations from all sorts of different people. Some are obviously built soully on gossip, but others seem to have a good idea of what they're on about. So, I don't know and I think for the time being I'm quite happy not knowing. I'd love to try to understand what it's all about at some point in my life, purely out of interest (not converstion!) but not right now. I have A levels to be getting on with, dammit!

i actually dont know very much about it, my only encounter with it was many years ago when my younger brother, must have been about 16, was in town with one of his friends, and he got accosted by some scientologists, they took his arm and dragged him to the meeting place, or headquarters or whatever you want to call it, and they held him there for 5 hours while they quoted passages out of the book, and told him he was a bad person and that the only way he could save his self etc, was to join them! he eventually bought the book off them and they let him leave, but my mother was so mad at them, she went straight down and asked to talk to the person in charge, then she told him that she would be pressing charges for kidnap and threw the book at the guy, she said a lot of choice things that she probably shouldnt have done, but you know, i cant blame her, if that happened to my daughter i would have done more than just threaten them! what right do they have to ram beliefs that we dont necessarly want, or ask for, down out throats until we feel threatened enough to give in to what they want? i think Ichabod wasnt far from the truth with his observations! disgusting!

on my street there used to be little people under tents and stuff that ask you to either complete a survery and get a free i love scientolgogy waterbottle, or they would ask me if i would like to join and get a free t-shirt. of course they offered free iced tea, but i didnt fall for it. it was the scientolgoy peoples who owned the top floor of this a building down my street...Honestly i do not believe in that stuff as a catholic. i believe that were not alone :::duh!::: and thyre aliens out there and stufffs, but i dont think we came from aliens...
