Shootings In US Universityhttp://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/6560685.stm
I presume you would have heard by now about this awful tradegy in the US, a gunman went berserk in a university in Virginia and killed 30 people, so far. I just, what do you say? It's just unbelievable..I mean what makes a person do something like that? Its so sad to think of all the parents and families involved when something like this happens. Very sad

it is terribly bad, I was a bit behind with things and only found out about it last night.
It was a love revenge type thing?
What a waste of lives.
However, one thing will not change and that is America's gun culture and the laws that allow it.
Carroll was telling me about a stab proof hoodie available in the UK.
These things happen but no one in authority seems to want to tighten laws and increase punishments

yeah, thats right, its the whole gun culture that needs to change, but that wont happen, because everyone is so scared of getting shot, so its like a catch 22 situation!
i believe that the UK is getting just as bad, only with knives instead of guns, how many people have been killed this past year? its just so scary! and it makes me scared for my grandkids when they come along, what will they be coming into? will it still be safe to actually go to school anymore? this world is just disintegrating around our ears, and theres not a damn thing we can do about it!
whoo cheery little post that :?

from what I have seen on cnn today(yes I watched the tv in the rooms I was supposed to be cleaning, f them i hate my job) and they thought the first 2 killings were a domestic, but then 2hrs later, he killed 30 more. So, I dont know, apparently he was 23, a loner, of South Korean origin. He has lived in the US most of his life. Its quite sad, they're trying to find info on him, but no ones knows anything...
I have to say though, with the media and technology the way it is, everyone is out blogging their story or talking to the tv cameras..I dont know about you, but i don't believe I would be doing that..I just thought it looked odd to see all the kids talking about it and it just happend, I mean one guy started crying when the reporter asked him how he felt about being called a hero, as he helped stop the killer getting into a room, the camera wouldnt get off his face though!! We really are so obsessed with seeing "real" people on tv now aren't we.?
I prob didn't make sense Im pretty confuddled today
Whatever comes from this though, is that the US needs to change its gun laws...I mean how could they not? But I know they have such huge power in the government just like all the other evil things, oil, cigarettes and the motor industry..gah

I had a slight freak when I first heard this news as one of our students is in Virginia, thankfully he is at a different university though.
Gun laws will not change in the USA at despite whatever happens.

has anyone seen the photos and video clips he sent NBC after he killed the first two students before going back on his rampage? He clearly had serious mental health issues.
to me, when he spoke he used the language of violent films, as if he was speaking as an actor might from a script, but obviously he thought his words were real
(I know its a poor explanation from me, but hopefully you get my meaning)

i saw the video clip of him this morning while i was visiting my dad, but the sound was down on the tv so i didnt hear what he said, but just looking at him gave me the creeps! he looks really evil!

Ali, apparently he was an english Lit student and wrote a couple of horrificly gory plays, so I can see where you are coming from.
I havent seen the vids, just read what he said.
Also, it seems a while back he was declared mentally unfit and a danger to himself by a court after a roomate claimed he was suicidal, unfortuanately the court didn't tick the box : danger to others

Working in a University I see an awful lot of very mentally unstable students (big eyeopner for me as I had no idea it was that bad - so many)- people dont really seem to care much about them or do anything to help. They just seem to say 'oh yes we know you have problems' and thats it, and I guess that is the same for that bloke too. And really it just takes one thing to tip them that bit too far for something like this to happen. What will it take for people to realise there is a problem and do something?

tis all horrifying
was very shocked to hear that you can buy a gun per month in that particular state

their laws are awful! I just remember from "Bowling for Columbine" by Michael Moore about the school shootings there, that you can buy most kind of guns and lots of ammo at their walmarts, Im not sure but I think all walmarts carry guns.! Imagine going into Tesco and buying a gun!

Tis weird - you can go into Walmart and there large as life is the 'gun' department, with the sporting stuff - thats in all Walmarts out there. They have more specific sporting shops too which sell a wider range of guns, knives, ammo - well you name it. Very scarey really. Think there are some rules and regs, but they are all out on display in cabinets. Was quite shocked the first time I saw it.
