Vegetarianism

I was just wondering how many vegetarians we have on the forum. It's a topic that generally causes a lot of people to have quite outspoken opinions.
I'm a pretty vivacious vegetarian myself, coming from the Smiths school of 'Meat Is Murder'.

been a veggie since 1987

I wish I was a vegetarian.
I'll probably start eating less meat when I go to uni.
My parents were a pain in the ass about me not wanting to eat meat, so I've given in till uni.

I gave up red meat in 1998 for about 2 years. Not for animals though I got turned off by a bad burger and just couldn't stomach it.

I think if I lived somewhere where it was cheaper I would go vegan. Cut out everything, but I just can't afford to eat like that here and I don't want to just not eat meat and eat vegetables, imo you need to eat all the pulses and proper crap. Again it would be less about the animal for me(I'm talking cows and sheep and pigs farm animals, I don't eat whale meat) I would be doing it for the earth, to eat more organic and local foods. I know there is the argument for not eating meat as all those farm animals produce methane which is bad for the environment and we should farm and eat kangaroos as they don't produce this certain element.

Maybe when I am older and have my own homefarm hehe

I do get amazingly annoyed with those who say ''I'm vegetarian but I eat fish''

or

''You're vegetatrain. Do you eat fish?''

by the very definition of the word, since when was a fish a VEGETABLE?

Ham of the Problematique

I completely agree, it drives me up the wall.

I actually met someone last year who said that they were a vegetarian, then one day I walked in on them eating chicken. Their excuse was: "I *am* a vegetarian. I just eat white meat!"

?!?!?!

Here's a question for you...

We have teeth to eat both veggies and meat, why else would we have them?

Surely it's just nature to eat meat, humans are designed through evolution to live on both meat and veg.

You don't see any vegeterian lions do you?  It's just nature to eat meat, not about saving the animals, since when do any other meat eating species think about saving the animals first?

I've never really understood why people become vegeterian (and I'd like to know!) the reasons for some people I think (no offence intended here) are a bit silly in my eyes, I know a few vegeterians and they used to love eating meat, but stopped because of the animals... Mainly farm animals that are bred to be eaten and isn't going to cause extinction. It just doesn't make sense to me!

Indeed my favourite meal is a thick cut gammon, or beef, it tastes good and is healthy.

And yes, I am no veggie.

^^ never understood it either

if the animals werent specifically bred for meat I could understand.  If everyone were veggie then the likes of sheep and pigs may well be extinct as farmers wouldnt keep them for nothing, well sheep maybe wool.

No offence by the way to you veggies - would be interested to know why you are a veggie tho!
