Wow, I hope Exo-Politics gets played, that'd be incredible and any solos and lengthened versions of songs would be greatly welcomed, though Micro Cuts... *fingers crossed* And you guys can't be jealous, how many shows do they play in the UK a year? This is only the second one within a 4 hour drive for me.

Wednesday, the perfect day. It's beautiful out, great weather for my area, and I'm ready to go. I've class from 9 - 3 usually, but only go from 9-11. My friends and myself load up and leave at 1 pm for the long ass drive. The show is in Nashville the state capital of Tennessee and about 3 & 1/2 hours away. We drive. We arrive. We follow directions to the actual capitol building... quite confused. It turns out that the hall Muse is playing is directly in front of the capitol building. The ground is marble, the building very Romanesque, columns et al - there's even a 30 foot bronze statue of Julius Caesar outside the doors. We get there at 4, by the way, and doors open at 7. We play some footbag (hacky-sack, dun't know what you call it across the pond) for about 2 hours and then lie down on the ground in the line for a while. We're only about 30 people back from the front, but there is another line waiting for doors to open at the other entrance, so we're not sure when we'll get in. 6:30 rolls around, and the incredible phenomenon happens - the line in front of us goes from 30 to 60 in a matter of about 3 minutes, I hate that more than anything and I promised to kick someone in the spine for it (I didn't).
But enough about that... doors open, we swarm and me and my 3 friends are on the gate, with me farthest to the left (directly in front of where Matt's mic stand will be) and we stretch to about the center of the stage. It's a very small venue, I would estimate around 1,600 people at the most. But it was quite beautiful, the ceiling had gilded gold designs and the balcony seats were stark white and cushioned. It was clear that this wasn't the type of concert the Nashville War Memorial Auditorium was used to. In fact we asked some of ladies who worked there and they said that most often it was a symphony hall, theatrical performance center, or any number of "more cultured" activities, as they put it.
We wait. The Like comes on stage at about 8:07 and they were quite good. I had never listened to them but they were very fun and very catchy. They are a 3 piece girl band from somewhere in England, I didn't inquire as to where, and they are fairly young. All quite pretty ladies with some good talent. The drummer was astonishingly good, but her hands were bleeding and she had to tape them up 3 times in the 9 song set. The bassist was also very good, laid down some great, fast beats and did excellent backing vocals (also very easy on the eyes ;-)) and the singer, who was the farthest away from me (they set up opposite than Muse) had a great voice and was... okay at the guitar, she basically played rhythm guitar and sang, but it was good. Overall quite an excellent band & I fully intend to support them further by purchasing their album.
They go off with a thank you and we wait. And we wait. I don't even know how long, but eventually the lights go down and out comes Muse. Chris is in his basic black button up shirt and jeans with some really nifty sneakers. Dom is wearing a plain white shirt with a v-neck & khaki pants. Chris is wearing a white and red horizontally striped sweater/polo looking shirt with a v-neck and black jeans. Chris immediately takes a seat at his incredibly gorgeous piano and they start up. The opening is actually a short (30 second) piano solo and then goes into Apocalypse Please which was quite good. It was the first time I had heard this song live and I was quite impressed, next up was something that really, really, REALLY surprised and delighted me. Sunburn! It was so beautiful, the piano playing was just incredible and during the song, since it is from Showbiz and fairly unknown in the states, very little of the crowd sang along. So I got to enjoy the wonderful beauty of not only Matthew Bellamy's piano skills but also his vocal stylings for a full 4 minutes without any off-pitch voices in my ears. It was heaven.
Now it's time for work... so I'll finish this up tonight (hopefully).

Wow Wes, it is very detailed, it is very good!
I'm sure yours will have more success than mine! It is not so easy to describe what we see and feel in fact because time goes so rapidly. It is a great rush of emotions and everything stops.
I wait for tomorrow, bright and early as you said.

After Sunburn came Feeling Good, just as wonderful as last time, I love that song live - just so energetic and incredibly wonderful. From there on it's pretty much a blur until the great last 3 songs. I know that Forced In, Bliss, TiRO, SMBH, Stockholm Syndrome, Take a Bow, Map of the Problematique and Starlight were played, not positive of the order. Throughout the show the band seemed to have ear piece issues, at one point during SMBH (I think) Matt kicked over an amp and laid on top so that he could hear or something, it was weird. At random times he would walk over and put his head next to an amp, also. Matt was more talkative than any other show I've ever seen him in. He thanked us probably 3 or 4 times... but I'm pretty sure he didn't say Nashville any of them, maybe Saint Louis or something since they were the next stop. But in comes the last three songs which, in my opinion were better than the Encore. Exo-Politics was incredible, everything I had imagined, and followed closely by Plug In Baby and it was incredible per usual. Finally the regular set closed with New Born - the first Muse song I ever heard and still one of the most moving songs when they play it live. It was quite wonderful. Exo-Politics was just... wow, not even possible to describe.
They thank us, head off stage, Dom waves and smiles a lot and they head off for about 2 - 3 minutes and when they come back out Matt is carrying a 10 foot American flag that he waves around and then hands out to the audience. Me and the 3 friends I was with got ahold of the bottom and tried to lift, but someone who had hold of the top of the flag wouldn't let go so they broke the flag in half - really, really, really horrible. It pissed us off a lot. Anyways... the encore was Hysteria and KoC, which are both good songs but definitely not among my favorites but still good. After the show I begged for set lists and sticks but the security were unprofessional assholes and ran us off of the gate so I didn't get anything after the show and was sorely disappointed. But oh well, I still have good odds when it comes to getting stuff after shows.
Me and my pal leave and go outside to sit under Julius Caesar and we notice one of The Like's roadies and talk to him for a minute when the lead singer for The Like (Z) came out and talked to us for a couple of minutes, she was really nice and what not.
This was, by far, the best live Muse show I have ever been to. Best of the 5. What made it so great? They were lively, Matt jumped, jammed, slid on his knees, rocked the show just hard as hell. The band as a whole had a couple of jams - one of which was about a 30 second long Irish Jig and a couple of heavy, heavy riffs. One of the coolest things was that they played the House of the Rising Sun Intro Riff and that got our hopes up really, really high. I would've freaked, gone insane, burst into tears had they played that song, but it didn't quite happen.
In any case, it was incredible and I didn't get home 'til 4 a.m. then had to get up at 8 a.m., go to classes from 9 'til 3 pm and then work from 4 'til 8. I was dead afterwards.
Thanks for the attention, mates. All of you are beautiful and tune in next time for the next installment. Same Showbiz time, same Showbiz place!

I can't wait for Showbiz but Sunburn, how you lucky you were!... and Exopolitics!
Why do you think Matt showed the american flag, Wes ? and yes, he seems to be very close to this public for once!
It would be nice to get a video from this one.
