I'm on here!
My t'internet is painfully slow so while I'm waiting for pages to load I'm cutting out some random bits for a display at work and am surrounded by piles of coloured card, scissors and a lot of mess on the floor.
I'm also watching Andy Murray play his match at Wimbledon, and am listening to both the washing machine and the dishwasher, and enjoying the peace (peace?) as both kids are upstairs playing Age Of Conan and the other half is out on a bike ride with his mate.
Multitasking there
|
mr_x

I'm waiting for one of my mates to get on Ventrilo (voice chat) so we can go do some online racing in some 60s and 70s touring and GT cars...
Some of these really:

I'm in a dilemma.
I can do something called 'Higher Level Teaching Assistant' through work, I've done a lot of the criteria (supervised a lesson on my own, planning, that kind of stuff) but I need to have a better Maths grade (I did 'O' levels) but the waiting list and competition for this status is HIGH. Its a shorter course, and work should fund it, but I'd also need to do a GCSE in Maths.
I can do a foundation degree in Teaching and Learning Support, which I can start in September, my current NVQ's are sufficient to get on it, but the cost is HIGH. The Foundation degree will help me get Higher Level Teaching Assistant Status, but I'd still have to do the first course as well to get full HLTA status.
The Foundation degree would help me towards teaching if I decided to make the jump.....
Both routes will take 2 years so the time factor is irrelevant, and its £610 for just one year of the foundation degree.
OK, rant over.

Sounds quite arsey Ali!
The best way to look at it is which way would make it more worthwhile at the end of the 2 years?
Cost may be an issue, but if the higer cost one will cover that cost after you're done with it through a higher salery or whatever then go down that way.

the summer school I'm involved in is for pupils on the 'Gifted and Talented' register, and its based on various extension activities to encourage them to 'think outside the box', ie problem solving, team building etc. Its an oppertunity for them to get lots of one on one attention and there's only 15 kids in the class too.
See, when people generally think of children with special educational needs they think of lower ability pupils, but the G&T pupils are also classed as special educational needs, but at the other end of the spectrum. I can even bore you with figures - 3% of each class / set should be identified as gifted and talented - 2% should be gifted academically and 1% should be talented - ie arty or sporty. You're basically talking about the top 3% of each year.
I worked with the G&T pupils in the primary school, and its all about pushing them to achieve by using different activites, and differentiation within the task.
See, when I go all nerdy it sounds impressive, but then I have aliens living in my insect bite
