New hair. Well happy with it. I just need to wait till I get paid so I can get some decent straighteners and wax so it stays like that. _________________ *Upcoming Gigs*

Very good to hear all that Manu!!
I'm at uni! Not sure when that happened, but I've arrived and just about settled in. I appear to have a flat full of sensible people. My flatmates appear to me amongst the most sensible uni students I've ever met! And as such, I get on with them very well!
It's also really good to be just 4 miles away from Jolie, much easier to see her now instead of being 150 miles away!
This week so far it's just been course inductions and other such things, it starts proper next week.
I do miss home already though, I love my native Geordie Land, finding it hard to leave it behind. But I'll get used to it, I've met people from Sweden, Holland and Australia, so it's not quite so easy for them to go home! _________________ Links of Chris:

I've just re-written my personal statement...
| Quote: | There is no doubt that the media is regarded as one of the most influential tools in modern society. From television to newspapers, the media surrounds us, influencing and expanding our opinions. Since a young age I have had a great interest in current affairs, with the curiosity of world and local events increasing as I have grown. This has led me to believe I would be the right candidate for a degree in Journalism.
One of the main attractions to this career is the idea that each morning you wake up not knowing what to expect that day. Journalists need to be able to adapt to any situation and feel comfortable talking to anyone. I feel that these are two of my greatest strengths, as my A level courses involve participating in discussions on a variety of topics and my role as a prefect has meant interacting with people outside of my friendship circle. I believe I will adapt well to the pressures of university, as I have always taken an active role in my own education, dedicating a lot of time to my subjects. This will be essential in my studies, as I am fully aware of the standard of work that is expected in a Journalism degree. This has attracted me to the course even more, as I believe in constantly improving myself and my work.
Outside of school, to prepare myself for this course, I attempted to gain work experience at newspapers in my local area. Unfortunately, I have so far been unsuccessful as many of these newspapers will only accept graduates. I have also established a blog on the popular site wordpress.com. I use this in order to review concerts I attend, for music has always been a big part of my life. This is an incredibly enjoyable pastime, and I hope to see this blog grow and develop over the years.
Both within and outside of school, I place a high priority upon reading books. I think reading is essential for anyone, because books help to expand your vocabulary far beyond what it would be without reading. Studying English Literature in school has introduced me to many authors and poets who I may not have been exposed to otherwise, with a favourite of mine being Angela Carter, who used her novels to challenge both patriarchy and class structure.
During my years in high school I have participated in enterprise days. These involved working with fellow students to compete against other teams in my year. The main skill I have taken from these days was the ability to work effectively in a team. I believe this will be an essential part of journalism, as there will be many times during my degree and career when I will need to work as a productive member of a team. Another skill I obtained were communication skills, which will be important for Journalism, as there will be plenty of situations where I will need to have effective communication, such as in an interview environment.
As a sixth form prefect I attend weekly meetings where the group discuss and arrange charity events. We help to organise Christmas meals and prom for the sixth form. My main role within the team was to promote events that we hold through the creation of posters. From this I have gained organisational and time keeping skills.
Outside of school, Snowboarding is a great interest of mine. I have been doing this since June 2007 and find it very enjoyable. Recently passing the finisher lesson means I am able to snowboard without the supervision of an instructor. I plan to progress this sport further, whilst keeping myself fit.
In November 2007, I worked as a volunteer at Age Concern for six months. This was very beneficial for me, for it gave me my work experience, which may have helped me to gain a part time job at Halfords in November 2008. This job has improved my time keeping skills, and has also helped to develop my phone skills, which I believe to be an essential part of Journalism.
All of these experiences in and out of school has given me the informed and definite view that Journalism is the perfect course for me. |
Opinions? I understand if you don't want to read it, but i'd appreciate anything you guys think on it. _________________ *Upcoming Gigs*

That's an awesome personal statement. It gives exactly the right statement Your opening is really quite well crafted too, which I like.
Can I point out a couple of technical things though?
"All of these experiences in and out of school has given me" should be 'have'.
Also, were I you, I would say 'from a young age' rather than "since a young age".
But yes, well done for getting through it after all the UCAS trauma too! _________________
