I've come to notice this myself. There are a few threads on mu and I felt that I had to contribute with my points of view. Some were complaining about MCR fans getting into the golden circle and taking the place of a far more superior Muse fan. However, i feel that if they were at a gig where Muse were supporting MCR like they did in America, then I am sure they would try to get into the golden circle themselves.

I would personally go to a gig just to see the support if that is who I was interested in. That is what fans do. I did see however a lot of people say they liked MCR there and I was one of them. I AM A PROUD LONG TIME MCR FAN!!

I dislike MCR simply because I find their music and style whiny, unlistenable and it's just not my kind of thing in general. In case you care, yes, I did gave them a listen. In fact, I listened through the whole first album when it came out. Winamp -> Trashbin. Purely question of taste, though, I have a friend who loves them and I'm keeping my mocking comments to myself.

Talking about Muse fans in general..I think this massive hatred towards MCR is because they are associated to what these days is called 'emo' - kids with oversized haircuts, glasses and attitude. Not a very loved species.

Another reason could be Muse being a support band. It might not be understandable to kids outside U.S., who don't know that Muse aren't freakishly popular there. I mean, on official forums France thread has 8,000+ replies, even my beloved Lithuania will reach 200 soon, and U.S. had 5 last time I checked. Being a European fan myself I can say it's hard to realize Muse are supporting someone, and not something like Pink Floyd either.

A lot of people would argue that MCR are not actually classed as "emo" and I know that they did not form out of popularity or as a fashion statement. Each album they have released, they dress differently and I think it all adds to their charisma. I don't really care if they are emo or not, it;s just a shame that this causes such conflict.

Though everyone is entitled to their own opinions

i like it though that on this forum we can actually say if we like them or if we dont without 50 people bashing you!

i personally love My Chem, but understand those who dont, and after all wouldnt life be dull if we all liked the same stuff

the thing I don't understand is that, why if someone doesn't like a band do they have to bitch and say horrible things about the band and its members, to get their point across?
I completely agree everyone has the right to their own taste in music, there are bands I don't like, loath even (fob) but I don't feel the need to slag them off or belittle the people who do like them. Thats what pisses me off.
Once and for all MCR are not emo..just so happens that they came out when emo was huge and some emo people like them, a lot of non emo people like them too and I for one am not emo! in the fashion sense anyway.
You know what? I hate labels and scenes but I spose it's a fact of human nature that we have to give something its little cubby hole to fit into.

edited for my bad grammer

Well said, I couldn't have said it better myself!!
Like you, there are bands I don't like but I don't go out of my way to slate them.( the kooks ) We all have different tastes and if we all liked the same thing, the world would be a very boring place.
