Contact

Hands joined around the table,
Eyes closed in the darkened room,
All the better to contact souls,
To see within the gloom

The harmless fun gets serious,
The glass moves to and fro,
The medium delirious,
The candles cease to glow

A musical crescendo
Disturbs the solemn air,
Discordant notes spin 'round the room,
Chaos everywhere

The glass spells out the next to die,
A communal gasp is heard
Whispers torment the baffled guests,
Elusive, fleeting words

For many lifetimes the farce goes on
And no sure sign is given,
Two hundred years of parlour games,
And no contact from the living...

The Ballad of Marianne - A Prose Poem

I met a strange man on the moor...he promised me everything, far more than desire, riches and good fortune;he promised to take my soul and in return, he would grant me my darkest wishes, of revenge, slaughter, infamy and a place beneath the throne of the Devil. I accepted his offer, and sent him to Hell in my place. Now I wander this so-called city, in search of disciples...for I am Marianne, the one your children fear at night, the accursed one, the one whom Lucifer cherishes above all his sinners. I am Death incarnate...the death you always longed for, secretly, the secret everyone shares but never reveals...

INTERLUDE

Marianne got off her skateboard, and looked around Rust City, the city of the future.
'What's up?', she said to a passerby, a passerby whose name was...Count Dracula!

*cue dramatic music*
'Hey gorgeous, fancy a pint...of BLOOD?!?!?!?!'
'OMGZ! Can I have your autograph?'
'No...can I have your SOUL???????'

Marianne put down her Rice Crispies and composed a poem, on the spot:

'Oh noblest noble whose name is Lord Drac,
I thought you had snuffed it, but now you are back,
I've watched you on telly, and then on dvd,
And I started to wish that your victim was me,

I decided to travel, to old Transylvania,
I missed the school bus, so I caught the plane-ia,
Your velvety cape just drives me insane-ia
Give us a kiss, I've got Draccymania!'

Dracula folded his arms, and shouted:
'Wow, you rock, Mazza! Enter my bouncy castle!'

You can do it, chief! I mean, look at this rubbish...hardly Byron, is it?

Marianne put down her Rice Crispies and composed a poem, on the spot:

I thought you had snuffed it, but now you are back,
I've watched you on telly, and then on dvd,

look, Boss, you can create sentences and stuff, this is my attempt:

A man was sitting in the grass
when a snake came along and bit him in the a**

(I'm ashamed to admit I did English Language 'A' level too and got a respectable grade! )

I'll try and do something ok?

steve you right the funniest poems!!!they're great...anyway, on more solemn note.here's a poem i started to write to my nan....i finished it the day she passed away  this is quite a personal one, but i like you all!

The Final Goodbye

I never thought this day would come,
The day so near to the final ‘goodbye’.
I can’t believe it’s ended like this,
Just when everything was going so well.
But once again, any dreams we had have been shattered.
I see you lying there,
You’re seeing, yet you’re not,
You’re hearing but there’s no recognition.
Now your life is like an endless sleep,
For brief periods you will wake,
All around you is love,
Yet you’re oblivious and it’s not your fault.
We’ll call your name, beckoning for you to realise who’s there,
But still there is nothing.
As I look down to you, I feel my heart breaking.
The tears begin to fall as I think about what used to be.

I see you before me, and my love continues to grow,
The love that’s always been.
Deep inside I know you won’t forget us,
And we’ll never forget you.
As the angels lift you to safety,
I reach out once more, praying you’ll hear me and stay.

But it’s too late now…
We’ve reached the Final Goodbye.

That's really beautiful. It's so heartfelt. I really admire you for putting it up, there's no way I would be able to show people something as personal as that.
